Yes, but also make no sense to erase just the past few weeks for the same reason and neither to not erase it at all since is still a threat, I do thought deeply in this 3 posibilites and even if erasing the whole friendship is still a menace, is still the best choice.
The point of the memory wipe is ensuring that when someone (the government) talks to Billy again he can't give away that the MC has mind control powers. Except now, if they interrogate Billy again, he's not going to remember who the MC is even though the group
knows MC is Billy's best friend. Which is impossible, unless someone used mind control on him.
If MC had just wiped memories about the power it would be good, instead he made himself 100x more likely to be caught.
He's trash at covering his tracks, tbh. He did fuckall to cover for the jocks he mind controlled (Off the top of my head, could have mind controlled the local drug dealer to think she'd sold a bad batch), and the whole Scarlet plotline is a shitshow of bad planning from beginning to end. The cop especially. All it takes is one camera or recording device in the interrogation room (aka the place most likely to have a camera or recording device in the entire city) and he's done.
Even without a recording, the fact he walked in and out of the station inside of ~1h days after an interview with the Super-FBI means they should have been alerted instantly, and he should already be cooked.
You expect a porn novel to have plot that makes sense? Should have seen the porn movies I used to watch on Super 8 back in the early 70's. They would be hilarious by today's standards.
I expect it to not trip over it's own dick when its trying to be serious.
