Why is there only one dude trying to recreate it ? Where are all the genius that can do this easy and fast ?
Lots of people have moved on from flash games and look for games with more plot. Also, the market got alternatives to it which are 1) still supported and 2) arguably more developed [Including notably: Porn Empire and Strumpets]. Simbro also garnered a reputation as an unsalvageable mess in the later versions as the multiple devs team just pilled up features without really addressing the bugs, making it harder and harder to fix them with each layer of code being added. This meant for OP that they had to remake the game from the ground up, which is no easy endeavor.
In addition, OP (and probably other people that considered it before) ran into the issue of assets which are no longer publically available (from my understanding that is) and need to recreate every single one of them and, by extension, to remake all the animation as well. To make things worse, Flash (the original engine) is dead so they need to port it to a new engine as well.
On the more speculative side of things, as I am a lone dev myself, maybe OP wants to keep control of things as divergences in the dev team can also lead to the game dying (I think that's what happened to the wonderful Breeding Season game) and since they want to make it as a passion project/hobby, they probably don't want to feel forced by the rest of the team.
Finally for your "where are the genius?", they are probably making the game they want to make instead of returning to simbro. As much as it is a classic, the "industry" moved on from the "LoK graphics era" to Daz (for more advanced devs) and Twine games (for "newcomers/non-pros" like me) CYOAs and VNs, so it's less attractive.
