So it's hard to answer for Kate, since at this point she came about a few years ago so I've kinda forgotten much of the thought process. Pretty much all my characters just come from very simple ideas or even the way look/present themselves. Then they evolve over time as I flesh them out and fit them into the greater picture, they just get something of a momentum going and start writing themselves usually. Having wider stories they can be inserted into obviously helps a great deal, hence the change in the main plot. I still consider the characters to be the main focus, with the story being a framework for them. With the monster hunting and mention of political factions with non vampire supernatural representation, I am brought to mind of one of the strong appeals in urban fantasy literature. Dresdsen Files and other works get a lot of mileage out of the concept of shadow politics. Hidden organizations and groups controlling different interests in a supernatural community, how the different parts fit in. With that, I like how you have Potency be monster hunting as it has me think of how the different stats for different specialized vampires lends themselves to different kinds of jobs in this wider shadow world. Which is interesting stuff for storytelling.
What inspired the character of Kate? And how is it going from Love and Vice, a mechanically complex smut game with a hollow story to something with lore and a tone from the get to more driven by narrative? I've always liked Love and Vice as a porn experience but its like Taffy Tales in that I want to do cool shit and I am stuck in a plain urban setting without spice. There were hints at a greater story in Love and Vice but it was never the focus. Allowing this supernatural urban fantasy premise opens up more to the experience. I find as I've indulged in these types of games, story and things to do add extra to the porn with action and drama make for something greater.
You seen Moniker Bloodlines? The idea it has of different povs for no set MC is a good one and I enjoy how it aims for a horror tone with a complex evolving story but the editing of the Renders is ass. Lovely idea with the vampire bimbo sluts, but dear lord is there so much wasted time spent on micro adjusting the positions of character models in rendering pages that could have been done in 5 or three clicks worth of render phases. And the writing itself varies between more well done than most to painfully short.
For Vice, I will share that in Love and Vice I noticed that often Love had the stronger story while Vice felt more generic at times. But with the Evelyn Vice scene of buying her the dress and making her wear lt, reversing the power dynamics, I'm curious to see how the emotions of the Vice path can be expanded and given texture to match the Romance's path depth.
I haven't played Moniker, never really personally liked the HS aesthetic but from the screenshots it does seem like it's captured the vibes pretty well.
So I don't know if the Vice path will ever have quite the same level of story appeal as the love one. Its smutty nature is somewhat at odds with typical storytelling. There's times when you're compelled to abandon realism/immersion in favour of the sex fantasy stuff. Maybe this game's setting will help bridge that gap somewhat?
