So why are there no Star Trek games (and why so little Star Wars)

Right. Some of you may have seen my post on the Artwork section. Most of you probably not. Not really important here, but it did make me question some stuff. I've been lurking around the site for.... over a year now I believe? In that time I've been looking for Star Trek (and Wars too, love both franchises) games, but I am truly surprised by the fact there are none/few. Those that are there are often of low quality (COUGH COUGH Deathstar trainer). Of course, I know Orange Trainer (and I'm a big fan of such trainer games, simular to Akabur's), but I never found anything related to Star Trek besides that (pretty shitty IMO) Ahura transporter game.

Am I the only one here interested in such a thing? **Wishes I could code**

If you look around, in general there are actually very few distant future (i.e. Star Trek, etc) or distant past (i.e. Star Wars, etc) Science Fiction based erotic and/or porn themed VN/Games in general... Let alone parody of Star Trek or Star Wars... And the few Sci-Fi ones out there, are not all that good in the first place... I've ran into a small few I've enjoyed, while I've run into lots that just aren't all that good and/or suck... You get more "slightly sci-fi" VN/Games on the market typically, that usually revolve around technology or chemistry based corruption/manipulation, based in a more modern setting, then others in the true sci-fi arena...

For long standing and highly evolved stories like Star Trek and Star Wars, you tend to have a more fanatical fan base... One that is highly protective... Does that influence the lack of Adult themed Parodies? Maybe... Or it could just be a lack of developers interested in using those platforms... I think it's most likely, just a general lack of interest in developers doing it... You don't see as many Parodies of anything really, compared to original works or generalized copy cats... And over half the Parodies I've tried, they were either not funny at all, a mainstay for a good Parody, or they were not entertaining due to poor writing/design... Sometimes a Parody VN/Game is only really funny to the developer and maybe a minor few, rather then the masses...

In any case, yes, it would be nice to see more Good Sci-Fi VN/Games, especially revolving around some of the bigger series like Star Trek and Star Wars, etc... But if the developers are not interested, or up to speed on the subjects, or any good at doing justice to those series, then you just will not see them being done...

Maybe it's bc we grew up with it. I personally cannot transfer my sexual fantasies in a story that resolves around ST or SW.

Typically, the only half way decent VN/Games I've played/read that were in the SW arena, were rather loosely based on it... Most others were either horrible and/or abandoned early on... I've not really seen any ST based ones at all, thus far...

Honestly, yeah. Most games I've seen try to incorperate establishes characters, and are generally either trying to be funny (and failing), or trying to be engaging (and also failing). It's quite sad actually.

I think that protected properties like SW or ST wouldn't survive long if a Patreon site for them would be created. It's pretty much copyright infringement as soon as you make even 1$ per month off something even loosely based on either of those franchises - not sure about that, just my guess.

I want a trainer game about Ezri Dax, somebody make it happen. Actually there was a trainer game with Deanna Troi that was kind of fun but I don't know if it's on this site, I got it on Emp. I will investigate.

Edit: Nope, it's not on here, what a shame.

That setting will only work if Dax is the one who oversees the training. She has far too much experience to be on the receiving end of the training. :D

And it's actually quite funny to see her mentioned here, because I'm currently watching the last season of DS9. :)

My totally baseless guess is that neither property was ever really all that sexy. Star Trek is also a kind of last-generation (ha ha) thing, and I feel that for older sci-fi fans the connection between the old Star Wars and the new Star Wars is just schizophrenic enough to make the entire property kind of an at-arm's-length thing.

Or maybe us older game players or developers just feel like both are too much a part of their young adulthood to really be seen as sexual?

Or maybe the properties just don't bring all that much to the setting of a sex game in general? Star Trek, for one, doesn't have that much memetic impact outside of the Federation, and future space navies aren't exactly hotbeds of sex even with empathy and whatever that water thing The Naked Time had going on. It's not like, say, Mass Effect really does, either, but at least it's been popular in the last decade or so.

I dunno. I was a pretty big ST fan back in the day, but I don't think I could bring myself to play a porn game in the genre unless there was a pretty significant not-porn game going on there (and ST does NOT have a good record of producing good not-porn games, with a few exceptions).

(Also as other folks have mentioned a game based on either property would be pretty ripe for Foxing)

Parodies are funny, they are guaranteed to have at least some audience, namely the fanbase of the IP, but after that, they are a tough sell. That's why most parodies that get known, get more patrons and move forward are from more popular IPs, such as DC, Avatar, Harry Potter and anything Disney, and Star Trek has not been exactly a normie favorite for a while. Just take a look at the most popular games in the parody tag, beside the odd Danny Phantom and Gargoyles game, it's pretty consistent with highly popular IPs in the present.

Star Wars, on the other hand, does get porn games regularly, but they tend to fall on another pit: that there's a 99,9% chance of a given game being trash. Death Star Trainer being a prime example, it could be the Star Wars we all expected, but the dev is scum and the game is terrible, Orange Trainer is decent I hear but I couldn't get into the art.

Seen some pretty good Star Trek outfits, but I imagine getting the ship interiors right would be tough

I was actually running around with that idea for a while now to create a Star Trek / Orville type game where you explore a different planet with every new update with each a unique short storyline and different protagonists like it's done in those series... but a lot more perverted. ;)

Now if I only had the patience to properly learn what's needed to make it... and wasn't so lazy...

If you are interested in Star Trek games and want a bit of skin exposed, Star Trek Online has a small community of modders that have found a way to remove many of the outfits in the MMO. It's not Kirk / Spock fan fiction adult games, but the authorized franchise game that has been modded for more nudity.
