This is true. Birth control, not very effective and not very safe, and often with a trade off between safety and effectiveness, has been a historical thing for millennia.

One of my "before I was a productive adult" jobs was at a pharmacy that my family owned back in the 90s. The horror stories we got, anecdotally of course, were bad. Especially Norplant, the under the skin insert contraceptive. It had severe affects on women. The worst part was that, at the time, if a woman displayed behavior changes due to the sudden onslaught of chemical changes she was usually blamed or just called crazy. It was bad.

I think I'd be pretty skeptical about that book with the little I know about Indo-European mythologies and pre-classical Greek history... Mycenians had most classical Greek gods, the newer ones of the Olympian pantheon were imports from Anatolia, and several Indo-European mythologies have a pantheon with 3 important male gods and a sky father as the chief god, with Zeus (Pater), Dyaus pitar and Jupiter all as the same name in different language families.

I found the wrong book ('the greek myths') but its got me on the right path - I believe its the wind gods, the Anemoi, in particular Zephyrus, the god of the west wind (the others have different attributes)

Here is a snippet off the net to save me typing but you get the idea

I have another book somewhere but I am struggling to find it, on the actual speculative origins (i.e. how did these gods arise and get associated with these things prior to classical Greek mythology but basically it went into the association with fertility/pregnancy and a particular 'wind').

If you know older people: Their marriage is mostly hostile or divorced. Few peaceful. Even in better places. Sometimes two older broken souls team up in a new relationship to lick their wounds. Still a sad display. Lots of pills being swallowed.
If you know young people: 50% guys single, 50% girls scarred by having been toyed with by a hot guy. Large part of the rest is in rather unsatisfying relationships (guy too feminine and offput by domineering girl, girl too masculine and used to hotter guys). They can't put their finger on why, though, as it would be a thoughtcrime to recognize the reasons. Lots of mental illnesses, lots of pills against mental illnesses, lots of therapy.
