Bugfix Tomorrow
We know the radio silence isn’t fun, but it’s something that happens from time to time. We greatly appreciate all our fans who wait patiently during times like this, and we hope that our eventual payoff always makes the wait worthwhile.
The Vixen bug fix is slated for release tomorrow and it’s looking like it’s basically going to be a secondary update of sorts given the amount of content being added.
“But… MAH SUPERGIRL UPDATE!”
A lot of people have voiced their concerns over how this whole bugfix “delay” will affect the upcoming release schedule. However, a lot of these concerns assume a few things that just aren’t true, like:
- All this time has been spent on bug fixing.
We’ll be honest,
it hasn’t. SR7 usually takes a break after going through the update crunch period, and sometimes that break is taken before work begins on any bugfix version. Yes, we want to get bugfixes out as soon as possible, especially when things wind up hella borked, but it does nobody any good if SR7 kills himself in the process.
You still had some new content. SR7 knew he had a lot of shit to go through and just came off a torrid update cycle that included a pretty nasty process issue surprise. So the man went ahead and took his post-update break.
If that infuriates you or if you think that’s “lazy” behavior, you’re entitled to your opinion, but we’re going to always focus more on the long game over the short term - which means prioritizing the mental and physical health of those who work for GG.
In addition to him taking this break, SR7’s first day back was also not bugfix related. We have some other things we’re cooking up – that we hope to share later this month – and his services were required in another direction for a brief moment. We’re an indie studio with very limited resources and decided pushing the bugfix a day and giving SR7 something else to come back to that wasn’t the slog he’d just taken a break from wouldn’t be a big deal.
- The Supergirl update requires just as much content as every other update.
First of all, as anyone who’s paid attention to the past streams should know, SR7 already got ahead on the Supergirl update a bit before shit hit the fan with the Vixen update. The Supergirl update is also going to enjoy some silver-lining-esque benefits from the Vixen issues too,
which will primarily help the update not run into the time management issues so many of you are concerned about.
This doesn’t mean issues aren’t still possible – we can’t predict the future – but, as everything stands at time of writing, we’re confident the Supergirl update is still on track meet its deadline window with a lot less issues than the Vixen update experienced.
The plans for the rest of this year are a continuation of the last 8 months.
… we’ll discuss this more in September. ; )
Shout Out to Our Fans and the GG Community!
Overall, a lot of the community has been much more understanding and patient this time around than in the past and we want to give that some recognition. We know borked updates aren’t fun for anyone and that the amount of time it’s taking for us to fix our core pipeline with the Rebuild can be confusing and frustrating.
We didn’t want to pause development and not provide you all with the regular content updates you’re used to, but there are core dev issues that have gotten progressively worse and that have made this year particularly hellish for us and you.
We appreciate the understanding, patience and continued support many of you have shown. It has not gone unnoticed or been taken for granted.
Thank you,
Gunsmoke Games
