Get ready for this I have like tons of replies to get to!
Hey, Haseo and Smokey,
I've noticed you guys have reached a bit of a plateau for your monthly income on Patreon and I have a suggestion. The $20 and $50 patrons don't receive anything more than gratitude and from what I've seen on here, a lot of people are usually upset with what SR7 decides to work on for each new build. Why not develop a voting system? SR7 can come up with a sheet of characters and their content that needs to be developed and voters can decide on who and what they want for the next build. It can be a point based system with $20 patrons having their votes count as 1 point and $50 patrons having their votes count as 3. It might not bring in any new patrons, but some of the insider (maybe even basic level) patrons would probably bump up their monthly contributions for that kind of offer.
Obviously, the voting system would need to be refined a bit more to match SR7's workload and it would have to meet certain time limits so that he can have his full agenda before starting on each build, but maybe you can run the idea past him and see if it's something you guys think would work.
Good idea! Only thing is we did this when we were art and games. Problem was you didn't see the complaints (no f95 back then), we were losing people because their vote didn't win ("this is rigged, I don't want to support WW content, only Korra"). We were trying to build a fan base that loved SR7 not the characters he drew. What I will say is I will revisit this with SR7 and see if we can come up with an idea. If we do this the resources (funding) will probably go into our other ventures (still h-games) rather than SU (just being transparent).
At least it's better than giving $20 and receiving no more than those who give $10.
Believe it or not some people still want to fund you cause they like you and want to see you succeed. We have 17 active $20.00 patrons, and 5 active $50.00 patrons.
Yeah i agree with you but they rather go with yearly update than a voting system
Really we should be on a if the update is finished we release it cycle, and we may just go that route eventually.
Good luck trying to get some creative control out of Sunsetriders7's hands.
This man knows!
Unless they offer more, they are stuck with figuring out ways to get new patrons to pledge money as their only way of increasing their monthly income.
We grew 100 patrons in the previous two months. That is 5% growth if we do that for the whole year (chances are higher that we do better) puts us at ~30% growth over the year.
I'd rather they reach their goal, bring on an animator or programmer full time, and have them help with the game. Hell, if they could get to the point where they could afford both, it could lead to bi-monthly updates with more/better content and significantly less bugs. This leads to happier consumers who will be willing to continue putting money in their pockets. Everyone wins.
We won't add anymore resources to SU, in fact right now. But the way our project is set up and the way it is worked on would require months of full-time work in order for us to efficiently add another team member to the project. We are building our internal development currently and would add more resources to that project/s. This is why any hires we have done are on the other dev team, eventually SR7 will leave SU to the wild and will move over to that team. At that point we hope to have had sufficient time to build our team and it's processes. Remember we are new at this shit and working with very little funding (meaning full time contractors need competitive wages something we cant afford). Any and all hires at this point are mere hobbyists, and split their time with other income generating things (ie Locke is an owner of a small marketing firm, Newman has his project and many freelance projects he works on).
But here we are stuck with a bi monthly update with the equivalent 1 month update and they're the only ones happy and winning
You can only have it one of two ways:
option 1: We release all content unfinished scenes and all, and no bug testing so you can hopefully see what was all worked on in the month
option 2: We bug test and remove content that cannot be fixed/finished in time add that content to the next month cycle.
The bimonthly things was proposed by the devs and approved by the patrons, we're not stuck with it.
While I'm not 100% happy with some decisions made by team (namely the amount of resources spent on the bordello), the game has been progressing steadily and every new update brings new content with quality and in enough quantity, which is the most important part. There's no rush to end it in a half-assed way, this is a sandbox game, they could spend the next five years adding content if they wanted.
Exactly this, SR7 has designed this project so that when we release it to all you (Source files) you can easily add to it for an eternity. SU silver/gold anyone?
Proposing the bi monthly update was a smart move but stupid for the patrons for agreeing thinking they'll get more out of it
Not being greedy here but i wouldn't say enough
There is a number you have that I seriously don't. How much content is expected by you a month? What constitutes a months worth of work? I have asked this question literally 100x now and never once got a real answer.
The patrons got lots out of it, in fact the builds are much bigger. Last build was 3 months build combined in size.
Bi-monthly wouldn't be nearly as bad if it was pay-per-release. But with the past 6 months there's been 3 1/2 worth of content. 1 was vacation, ok fine everyone should get that, sure. 1 1/2 was the first one which had more bugs than content added seeing as how over half what was implemented didn't work. And now 1 again for...vague groundwork with no transparency between creator/patron.
Voting, while a good sound and reasonable idea, is laughable because then real progress would be made if it was followed through with. What's stopping people with a brain to just be a patron every other month since there is 0 benefit for the dead months or the higher "tiers"? Kudos to conning idiots I suppose.
No transparency? You don't go to SR7's streams I guess. The guy will literally tell you what is happening. One of our mods has come here and told you what is going on. We have never missed a release even due to sickness (we released then as well).
Ok let me do this for you! I will list the size of every update from Nov till now. Then we will see the size increase overall. Ok let's start
Oct 773 mb
Nov 793 mb (+20 mb)
Jan 818 mb (+ 25 mb)
Mar 879 mb (+ 61 mb)
One of these builds is not like the other...Can you guess which one? I will help you March was the first bi-monthly update and it is literally 1.35x larger than the previous updates...combined.
I think thats the reason for most complaints. Its not the work he is getting done, its the the focus of that work. The work he does is great quality but most people want more advancement in the cells, not the bordello. And most people want popular existing characters story advanced or finished before adding anymore characters. Take WonderWoman, probably the most popular female, yet she is not even in the cells yet. Nothing done with Catwoman. Lois, Harley, Batgirl etc have no advancement in cells. I don't think we have seen any changes in the cells since last fall.
So I do like the idea of a voting system for patreons, at least then customers can tell him what we want to see. I know people say just relax, he will get to everyting eventually, might take a few years but he will get there. But what if he quits before then? or the game for some unforseen reason is abandoned? No one can be sure it will ever be finished so I would rather him focus on the stuff people want. Just my 2cents.
Literally the reason this build is a little small is he was doing animations for original characters. I will do you all a favor and share the content which was created during this two months cycle, but will NOT ALL BE IMPLEMENTED as some animations are not finished (art work is done).
