My theory is that SR7 saw how popular TNH and RLE are and suddenly became nostalgic about his ancient unfinished Rogue comic.
And like some people already mentioned his mental fortitude is the same of a caffeinated squirrel.
The way they develop SU or BoB should serve as a cautionary example to other devs of what to avoid.

I just don't get it.
There's already Rogue-Like and The Null Hypothesis, so what's the point?
I know about the original SR7 comic and I really liked it, but I just don't see any reason to make ANOTHER game about X-Men, when there's clearly other stuff to be done. I doubt that there's anyone who asked for this.

There isn't an IP we won't touch, just because someone else has. SR7's work stretches a ton of different IPs from Ducktails, TMNT, League of Legends, Korra, Avatar (as Gunsmoke4), Marvel, Gargoyles, DCAU, DBZ, etc.

I will only say that while they are correct that Rogue Lust Powerslave is a cornerstone and exemplary piece of SR7's work....to the best of my knowledge it remains incomplete to this day. The last page I saw released was nine years ago.
Yes, you're correct. If I remember correctly we dropped it to continue SU. But even to this day it's still requested monthly. Vandalized was finished just before Rogue Lust.

We didn't release a roadmap this year, and will not moving forward. Last update was end of April to Gotham (0.51v)

The lack of focus, id say, if you arent going to commit to the bit, then might aswell stay in your lane and work more on SU instead of half-assing both.
For example, for all the problems Oni has, he really does focus only on RLE, and when he puts on the effort he shows he can do good stuff like with Wanda.
Then you have Null hypothesis with an entire team in it, and that thing is probably the best X-men content that has been produced in who knows how long and puts Marvel to shame, wich is fucking ironic considering its a smut game.
I would disagree about focus. For 10 years the only project that had serious work on it is SU. We decided to pivot because we want to do more. Sorry that isn't something you like.

Honestly I (Smokeshank) suggested we doing Rogue Lust: Powerslave because it's requested so often. We wanted a clean slate to do a pivot, and I thought it would catch everyone by surprise (mission accomplished!). I honestly never heard of Null Hypothesis until the comments here, but it looks interesting (SR7 may have heard of it he subs to a bunch of Patreons). Oni's Rogue Like has been around prior to SU, and we considered avoiding it. But in our opinion our project will be nothing similar other than IP, the art already is much higher quality and the scope will be much smaller.

Our planned content for this update came in around 5 months total. We have trimmed a month off to get within scope, for this update.The idea behind this project is allowing Patrons to be involved in the development process, something that we're unwilling to do with SU. This has been a constant request from patrons for 10 years. So our initial build will be an intentional rough draft, and patrons will help shape the end product while we tightly manage scope. There will only be two corruptable characters in this chapter. And if this chapter remains popular, we will do the other ones in the same fashion as this.

For SU, it's back being worked on after content for this release comes out. I would safely anticipate an SU update around Oct, and it's focus is Themy.

I don't want to defend SR because he's incompetent and flippant, and therefore hardly a professional. But an X-Men game (vn) in SR's style? I'd love to take it on. Plus, that franchise asked for it, since it has as much potential as SU. But taking on a third project? Their manager/treasurer (Smoke) seems to be paid to trash talk.

As for competitors...
Roguelike is good, of course, but it's also far from ideal. They have a lot of their own problems, for example, with coding or work speed.
TNH didn't grab me at all. It seems good, but it really puts off playing it. Rather, it's a matter of the strange drawing style.

That isnt what i said at all, dont be combative, i like X-men and would only benefit from having more people doing stuff with it, specially Evo, my point is that itll be better to focus on making SU the best it can be instead of pivoting time and energy to other projects.

TNH didn't grab me at all. It seems good, but it really puts off playing it. Rather, it's a matter of the strange drawing style.

I'm sorry if you thought I was being combative, that was not my intention at all. I just wanted to address the context that we have done the same project for 10 years, which in my belief would show focus. And it seems you you disllike our pivot, or I could be wrong and you like it.

We could but BoB2 is next for our small project portfolio.

I am ambivalent towards it, thats just my opinion, like i said, more X-men stuff would be benefitial to me, but id rather our DC buddies get the best game they can get, we X-men fans now have 2 games, while SU is the only one i can think of DCAU besides the teen titans one.

We agree, but we I think we also would agree that we shouldn't be beholden to doing a single project for the next decade either. This is a ultra small project, and we're spicing up our catalogue. It's a win win for everyone, F95 users get some more parody capeshit, and our supporters get what they have been requesting for a decade.

I think a lot devs stretch their game afraid of losing subscribers by having an end to game. When in reality having an ending allows for a lot of benefits. SU should have probably ended a while back so SU2 (or what ever game) could have been developed based on fixing the complications found in SU's development.

From the 90s animated series? The one Rougelike uses? The one from a specific comic? The one from the movies?

Erebus I agree fully, and the idea of an ongoing project forever is what typically seemed to fit the patreon model forever ago. But we have been understanding a few things as of late. That model is rife with problems as you stated, and the constant need to fill a change log with actual content pushes problems down the line.

What we're doing here with Project Powerslave is entirely different. We're combining a lean startup development model, and placing patrons right in the middle.

Build->measure->learn-> improve

That is the core loop we're going to do over and over until the project is complete. And supporters will be inserted in the learn section. They will help us identify the problem areas and refine the needs, then iterate the improvements with small builds, then validate the our solutions. If the solutions don't hit the problem goes back to the beginning. We will only solve 3 problems per loop, so each build will have 3 core problems we will focus on fixing. This can be narrative, art, mechanics, etc. We control the what needs to fix, and patrons help shape it.

My hope is that this can get these small games out quicker and in 10/10 territory.

So, will we still see some cool updates in August?
If all is good for them, we will get an early build for this new game they're working on, after that they will work on SU which normally takes them 2-3 months, so expect maybe in oct-nov for SU, and in this month this new game.

I've been critical of this new game because of your previous record, I love SU and want to see more of it HOWEVER the more I read the more I'm intrigued for this new game, I still stand by my statement of seeing what the builds you release for both games look like to see if your can walk the talk, but I'm willing to give "Powerslave" an honest try and not be so critical.
