There's no need to fight, y'all.
Long and short of it is that while VP is extremely ambitious and extremely talented, they're also quite reasonable about their time and effort. I spoke to them for quite a while back in the beginning and I was super impressed by the project plan they built for themselves so that they can make reasonable, measurable progress on their game while not burning themselves out either.
They're a pro and it shows.
But what that also means is we can infer that while adopting animations eventually is totally something VP may want to do, that's what we call a Big Change™ and can't easily be introduced into an existing project plan as carefully adhered to as the one for Star Periphery.
Will animation happen? From what we've seen from VP's love of their game, love of their supporters, and their pursuit of excellence? Probably! But it's also unlikely to be soon unless there are sacrifices made in the current roadmap.
If I had to guess, after Amira Day 3 there might be a revised roadmap published, and in that roadmap that might be the soonest we'd see any reliable indication of when animation might be integrated into Star Periphery.
TLDR; cross your fingers for animation, but don't hold your breath either.
