When is the next updated coming up? I'm thinking of playing the game, n not sure if now is the best time.

According to the dev, it should be out sometime before Christmas(?)
So hopefully we shouldn't have to wait too much longe, but Release 7 sounds pretty damn great so far either way. But there is still a decent amount of content so far in 0.6.9. and certainly enough to make me consider it worth trying out now, imho.

It's funny why people can't accept reasonable criticism in his post. Everything is correct, and no one is saying that the game is bad without it.
I would argue that at least a portion of these are not really reasonable. Voice acting, for example. The game is nearly 300k words (for comparison, The Fellowship of the Ring is ~180k) at this point. A solid amount of it spoken word, too. The sheer amount of voice acting needed for that would be staggering, both in game size and, more importantly, in the amount of work voice actors would need to cover even a portion of the game. And that's not even talking about how to even afford this amount of voice acting, about organizing multiple voice actors, doing QA of their work, and doing all the sound editing needed. And that's before you even start putting the voices in the game. The impact on development time would be massive, to say the least. There's a whole host of other problems related to it.
Sure, I could just let them voice a little snippets of dialogues, but that kinda defeats the point in my view. Not to mention, it ruins everyone's already existing idea of how each character sounds. I don't think SP is simply a suitable project for voice acting, I'm afraid.

With all that said, there WILL be some voice acting in the game; namely, some of the Codex entries will be voiced, similarly to the original Mass Effect! I'm actually in the process of selecting a voice actress for that, so if you have some tips/favorite VAs, let me know! Preferably smaller ones who already do futa content.

Sound effects are being worked on, and there will be a dedicated sound/music update fairly soon!

Not sure what "gifs" were supposed to be, but if we are talking about animations, then yes, these will happen once I'm happy with my animation skills! But again, they will be only implemented on a limited scale; animating an entire game is simply not viable (nor reasonable) for a one person.

As far as "cinematic scenes" go, I'm not sure I understand that. I think that the game already has some fairly cinematic scenes!

I doubt that anyone would seriously consider voicing all the dialogues in the game. I think he was referring to the sounds of slapping, moaning, the sound of a chastity belt clicking, and so on. However, even with these drawbacks, I want to say that you are creating a very cool game.

The thing is, none of those things make a game better in any serious fashion. A visual novel is about two key factors: The visual bits, and the novel bits. Fancy that! It's almost like the name actually means something, huh? :ROFLMAO:

Jokes aside though, the idea that sound and animations would not only enhance an AVN, but even be required to make it good? That really is downright fucking stupid and nothing but. If all you want is animated porn scenes, Hell, the Rule34Video site has you covered in pretty much every mainstream fetish or variety you could want. And I will not judge anyone for enjoying those; they are great if all you want is some mindless fap material.

But on the other hand, what makes this game so damn good is that it has an excellent sense of presentation and cohesive structuring, creating a vivid and immersive world, with some of the juiciest looking visuals anyone of us are liable to find. And I'm not just talking about the futa ladies and their cocks, either! (Though they are definitely "juicy" at the very least. Holy shit!)

And while I really don't consider this game "the best" in any broader sense of the word, it is nothing short of absurd to try and detract from its overall genuinely high quality because "it doesn't have voice acting." Really, come the fuck on. Aside from random moans in sex scenes (and even games featuring those are in the minority, really) how many visual novels have any kind of voice acting? And of those, how many actually have even halfway decent writing in both quality and quantity?

It might mean animated cutscenes? Scripted animations for important story moments for a more typical video game in other words. Like for example, when you leave the space station for good at the end of this current beginning chapter, it'd be a fully animated cinematic instead of the static images.

Still a tall order for a solo dev though, so I'm not expecting anything of the sort. Even with individual frames you still manage to capture really good moments, like that one shot of the station's massive entryway from an inside POV that I've posted about here before.

Almost sounds as if you don't have "Star Periphery the Movie" planned.

Not to get bogged down on this too much but he def mentioned these separately. Yep, game is sparse in sound effects, legit critcism. AND "voice over" was mentioned separately. Same with "gifs" and "cinematics scenes" . I can understand someone missing animations, or even mentioning unrealistic features when the topic is best game ever. But it did happen, dont gaslight VP, thats my pastime!

I think the best would be to hire someone just for animating. Easier said than done. BUT only sporadic animations would be a bit meh, and i suspect it will eat a lot of development time. Getting the game fully animated would improve it - animations matter little to me but a lot for some. Its more important than codex voicing. I just dont see how VP starting to animate everything is not a huge scope-creep. Perhaps 1 animation / encounter only? Assuming 4-8 encounters / update that would be fine - 2 to 12 days extra. But multiple animations up to 4-6 / encounter could be 3-6weeks+ , not including retroactively animating scenes for 3 years of content(!!). I think 1 month salary for 1 month animation work / update (20 short high quality loops/movements?) could be worth it. Even the "cheap" ones are expensive and quality is super important here so im not certain my math checks out - but if possible. VP needs market research how important animations are at this point o.o . We are talking very costly business or alternatively +1 month to updates and a sparsely animated game for many many years to come.
Just a fact.
If the plan is something modest, max 6-8 animations / update, even then another 10 could be spent catching up with previous content for several months, and total animation work will be measued in years by the time the game is done.
Fact 2.
I really shouldnt start on sound update as a scope-creep lol... it makes sense to do it once -to catch up with sound- sure. Just for the sake of clarity we are talking about even more work being insterted into the release schedule afterwards, which is probably not something to worry about in of itself but very much strenghtens my previous point about animation.
