So I'm going to be that guy.

I'm canceling/abandoning this project.

My lack of experience in developing has led me to add characters and events too carelessly, leading to a different story from what I originally intended. Now, some of this I expected. But I've strayed way too far from my original idea.

Sorry if you feel like you've wasted your time on this little project of mine, I hope you at least got some enjoyment out of it.

Hopefully, I can do better in the future.

Do you know the point where the story started to go where it wasn't supposed to go? If yes, nothing keeps you from rewriting the story the way you intended it to go. If it was episode 3, scrap it, rewrite it and try to reuse assets you already have created.

To keep you on the path, you could have (at least) a rough outline where the story goes to and what main characters are in the story. Do you know what made a tv series called different from most scifi series there was in the 1990s? All episodes for all five seasons (22 episodes each) were written before the first episode was filmed.

I enjoyed your work so far so I'd like "State of Mind" to go further, even with a little rewind. :)

I might do that someday.

As of now, I'm undecided if I want to tackle the courier story again right away or to go with another outline I have in the same "setting".

About Babylon 5, no they weren't all written before the first episode was filmed :)

Thanks for answering me!

You do what you want, and need to do. :) I'm no storyteller nor writer. I'm only a consumer of (mainly) good stories. I remember I liked especially how you had lights in your renders, especially the scene in ep2 before MC goes to the corridor to meet the client. The old photographer-hobbyist in me enjoyed the scene very much.

I stand corrected. :D I so remember one of my scifi-nerd friend telling me before it started in Finnish TV in 1997 how awesome it was when the whole five seasons were written before the filming started. But now I checked out that Straczynski didn't write all episodes himself. But he had the whole five-year long story arc ready when he pitched his idea to the tv companies. But maybe next time you'll have the skeleton ready before you start to flesh it out. (y)

I'll also miss this game a lot if the dev is indeed dropping it, it had me very intrigued from the get go and had a lot of potential.
What someone already suggested, I don't think it's a bad idea at all to rewrite the story from the point onward where it started to go to a different direction than what was originally planned, should be somewhat easily doable, since it is only 3 episodes in, as opposed to what it would be if it was, say 10 episodes in.

Hope you feel like getting continuing the project after all :)

Please don't get discouraged Korentin. It seems like you have a good story you want to tell, and more importantly it's something unusual. Pushing the boundaries or trying something new is always hard - and it's very much to your credit that you didn't settle for making yet another modern setting "slice of life" game.

Also...don't be too hard on yourself about this. God knows I've made more than enough mistakes in my time as a dev, and yet I've learned from all of them. You've been honest and upfront about everything which, again, is to your credit. So, learn from this, be kind to yourself and then dust yourself off and try again.

To keep you on the path, you could have (at least) a rough outline where the story goes to and what main characters are in the story.
monksims makes a really good point here and one I'd fully endorse. It doesn't mean you have to have everything scripted out but as long as you have the story arc and branches worked out you should be fine.

Good luck.

Hey folks, I appreciate the encouraging words and I've been working on this and another project I've been kicking around.

I'm leaning towards the courier project right now but I am still experimenting, so nothing final yet. I hope you'll still like it if I go ahead with it. On the surface, it might look quite different for some of you. It won't exactly rehash the events of State of Mind either.

I may only be speaking for myself, but I personally don't think most cared about/got attached to the specific courier or the people he interacted with.

Mainly because he didn't truly have a personality (the whole amnesia thing), and since each release kept adding new people and all the old ones didn't really return, we couldn't become attached to them.

I think most of us care(d) more about the world building/lore you were doing. Spirits of the houses/boats. Inter city/organizational fighting, magic, etc.

So I figure most of us will come back to see where that goes.

Ok, well those things are in both projects :)

Oh, I am a sad panda having read that you'll or have abandon this one. A very very sad panda.

BUT whatever else you might come up with will also be awesome.
The story was very intriguing, the writing was superb and the visuals stunning.
And all of it was new and fresh.

So I guess you can't go wrong.

Just give us something please.

I even said please after all! ;)

Hey, sorry for the late answer.

There will be something else, but no idea yet when it will be ready I'm afraid.

Now I really regret not writing a review of this back when I played it (as moral support) as I loved everything about it. It's like the game was made for me. I do hope it is revived as I couldn't find much fault with what was offered so far.

I agree, I hope this game will be continued, really do like it a lot.
Or if rewritten, then at least keep the general main plot the same and use same models as in this one, and only change what needs to be changed for a better flow of story and all :)

this was an interesting game so I look forward to see your next project
Thanks for the kind words, it means a lot that people find my work interesting.

So I've had a difficult time deciding which project to focus on. Up until recently, I've gone back and forth between the "courier" project and the other one that I've alluded to.

For now, I've decided to hold off on the courier project. This means that I've managed to put in more time and effort on the other project. Still, no ETA, and I don't want to say much about the story other than it sharing the setting of State of Mind.

Anyway, here's a little tease of the project.

Intriguing tease and lovely render! If I may ask one question that's particularly important to me. Can we play as a male protagonist? Unfortunately for me I don't enjoy playing female protagonists specifically in erotic games.
