Shame it was short, I really enjoyed it! I love idols so an idol management game is a dream come true for me.

Also, was that NewJeans? Did you pay royalties or get permission?

That splash animation is super cute. I have high hopes for this game. Goodspeed, I'm looking forward to more updates.

Yup! I have some NewJeans songs in the game. I plan on having a lot more Korean songs like Pop, R&B, etc. since I am a fan of that genre and it fits perfectly within STELLA's setting.

No, I don't pay royalties or do anything like that since this game is just a FREE passion project. If my small, little porn novel game ever gets DMCA'd or copy-right striked, I'll deal with it when the time comes. But right now, I like to think I am safe to choose any song I want without having to recycle the same ol' copyright-free or royalty-free music that you hear everywhere else (even outside of AVNs). In other words, fuck it lmao

Thank you so much for the kind words! I'll always keep people like you in mind while I happily work on my future updates for the game (I'm really happy how my logo and its animation turned out too. Fiverr people are honestly amazing.)

Saw the game featured in some of the disc servers I'm in, and gave it a shot.

First off - I'm surprised that the premise of manager of an Idol/popstar group is relatively rare among AVNs...

Anyhow, it was a nice start, but much it's too soon for me to have a solid take on it. Looking promising though, and I liked almost everything.

My min criticism is that the dialogs can be very rambly and yappy at times, going in circles too much. Two instances in particular stood out for me: the talk with the best friend in the KBBQ and the first meeting with Ruby where she and the MC start talking about gaming. There are a couple other instances, but those two were the ones that really made me think "can we move on already?"

Those two instances in particular could've had 60 to 70% of the dialog cut with no loss at all to the game or character development.

In instance 1, the friend wants to catch up with the MC and offer him a job, but there's too much parallel talk with the friend and in instance 2 we want to learn that Ruby is a bit of a rulebreaker (what with sneaking out anon at times), super chill and very cool gamer girl, but the characters geeking out on each other's gaming knowledge/habits could've stopped at super smash bros - we already get the point there. But there's a lot of talk of League, Apex, specific characters in all the games and internal mechanics of each game (like the sweet spot for Roy vs Marth) that is just INSANELY boring to read unless the player themselves is also having a nerdgasm over those things.

Comparing the dialog interaction in those two cases with every other character introduction would hopefully make what I mean crystal clear. All other interactions have much better, more focused and interesting executions. We got the sense that Tiffany is very shy and reserved, that Beaumont is a very blunt straightshooter who's also a bit of a fitness freak, Eva is an adorable clumsy ball of energy... See what I mean?

The characters so far all seem very likeable and distinct, each with strong (different) foundations from the get-go and that's awesome.

I want to see the next update brings already, and hope it drops soon (though the game literally just launched, so it might be a while).
Thank you for taking the time to write and share all of this insightful feedback with me! I completely agree with your criticism about the rambling conversations. This is definitely my weakest part of the update, and I will make sure to keep this in mind when I work on future updates and conversations. For more context, I already talked about it in this post here: https://f95zone.to/threads/stella-v0-1-eggrik.224145/post-14788640

I do agree with what you are saying. I think my writing can get too yappy, especially if the player is not interested in that topic. A huge contributing factor to that is the fact that these conversations with Jay and Rin only used one or two render angles, so it was just a yapping spree with no visual difference besides body language. I will try to work on this weakness for my future updates by either adjusting the conversation topics, length, or actions.

All in all, taking you soooo much for taking time out of your day to share all of your thoughts with me. I really appreciate it, and I love receiving constructive criticism like this to help me make STELLA a better game and story for you all to enjoy!

I'm definitely keeping an eye on this game.

I'll keep my expectations in check cause I've felt disappointed at other stories before where the writing went to a very different place to what I wanted/expected. That's mostly on me, though also in part on those authors hinting at a narrative promise and not coming through.

However... I'd be lying if I said it's gonna be hard to keep my expectations in check with this game. The tags are damm near perfect in content, clarity and presentation for my tastes, and what the game presented thus far (minus the issues I've already mentioned before) is just urging me to get hyped.

Can't wait for the next drop!

Thanks for your hard work!

Not to sure about the idol thing, maybe it's because I am an old man and think the idol thing is kinda dumb. But that is a personal view. That said a new harem game is always great and the planned tags look promising. HS is my third choice of art style but does not detract from the AVN. Also not a fan of unnatural hair colors, one female has pink hair another purple. I do like the story so far and I am looking forward to more. Thanks dev for entertaining us perverts here.

So far I like how the game is going and what it is about, in my opinion it has potential.

Points worth highlighting: Crystal's little flirtations are very good, I like that little aura about her, each of the girls looks like they have their different personalities, I like that, however my favorite is the redhead girl Tiffany, honestly redheads are my weakness, having a redhead in the game is like 90% approved, 5% the Harem fetishes, without a doubt and that nothing is forced or can be avoided (femdom, lesbians, Ntr (this one shouldn't even be considered, I speak for myself)), hence the other 5% is the animations, renders and the plot.
I must say that Rin, Sophia and Crystal are not far behind Tiff, Eva would also be close, but well that is only as a first impression, it will be time to see how the game evolves in all aspects.

So negative points, the MC seems to need to grow a bit of a backbone, it seems to me that he is a bit of a loser and is obsessed with the idol team, he also mentions that he is good at reading people and then you see him act like a virgin schoolgirl in front of Crystal's flirtations, that would be better change and a new haircut, honestly the MC's long hair does not look good at all, well without further greetings and good luck eggrik .

PD: My English is minimal, I hope I am understood and finally, say Do not abandon the game, it has potential and more

"It's not enough for me to not see it"
"You need to write a slightly different narrative around the fact that MY FEMALES never interact with each other if I'm not there and they NEVER EVER are allowed be in a room with their friends alone!"

I bet they won't get the comparison to the psychotic fan whose the reason MC got his job in the first place :KEK:
Way to put words in mouth, the objective behind asking clarification about any particular fetish is that those who do not like it can simply move on from the game/thread, nobody asked or asking the dev to alter the story for them. Or is it an offense to ask for detail about a tag/fetish before diving into the game? In all honesty i don't give a damn even if it is, i will still ask it.

Take it easy.

Apologies in advance for the huge wall of text...

Man, what a great start to a game. I have probably played more AVNs than I should and if this first release is any indication of the future of this title, I think I'd place it at the very top tier. So much so that I'm going to put it in my signature after making this comment.

First, the idol manager setup is a home run of an idea. I think as someone else commented on the thread, you'd expect it to be more common in AVNs given how great of a setup it is, but alas, someone had to do it first. At the risk of stating the obvious, I think the reason it makes for such a great story is because it becomes easier to write a diverse set of characters with each girl having their own personality that fits together because they have a shared interest/job, live in the same house, they all know the MC and each other well, etc. and with the MC as their manager there's a real in-world reason for them to get closer over time and develop relationships.

All of that would already be great, but then having the MC be a newbie who works under an older, would-be idol (who also happens to be the best LI in the game thus far and really well written) is just chefs kiss and shows how thoughtful the writing here is. So world building and characterization for this novel score a 10/10 in my book.

On top of that, there's all the attention to detail which comes through in the richness of the menu options (custom fonts and text size, fuck yeah), the little dialog floating explanations on hover, thoughtful e m p h a s i s littered over the text liberally, the rich soundtrack built-in from the very first update... again a 10/10!

Personally I'm a big fan of HS games, but I know is not everyone's cup of tea. I just think it suits the adorable type LIs really well, which again makes it a great choice for this particular game. I guess in the spirit of not being pure hyperbole I guess there are other HS games with a bigger team that can extract even more from these models and those would be 10/10 renders whereas this one is more like a 7/10 on that department.....except the assets seem pretty varied, such as the richly detailed mansion for the girls, the local street with the burger shop, the KBBQ restaurant so I would give another 2 points for all of that, totaling 9/10....plus an extra point for the fact that this is a sole dev on their first AVN wrapping it up neatly at another 10/10.

I played this today after feeling a bit shitty for life reasons that I really wish I wasn't getting bothered by...I went in blind, not knowing what to expect, and for a moment I was transported to another world, feeling blissful, excited about what the next idol was going to look like and how their personality would be, looking forward to making a move on my boss and eager to start on Monday!

Then I came here to say how much I liked it and saw the planned and unplanned tags which literally map almost perfectly 1-to-1 with my interests (as a maledom fan, I don't care about femdom but even that is going to be optional) how kind, considerate and responsive this dev is to everyone's feedback...man, this is almost too good to be true. I know this just launched but I can't wait for the next update already

Finally, to turn this otherwise glowing review into a ever so slightly more balanced one, I agree with whoever said the dialogue could indeed be cut down a little in both the KBBQ scene and the Ruby intro. I think those two were the only clear instances that needed editing, although maybe I would consider cutting down a line or two in the chats with Crystal too. Basically, if it doesn't need to be said to advance the plot or characterization, it can be left out. And one piece of unsolicited advice: you mentioned not knowing how the story is going to end yet, which is understandable given you just started, but I encourage you to write as much of it in advance as you can. We are all just passengers and you are the sole captain. Some of us aren't even paying for the ride! Based on what I could read of your personality in your interactions above, you do come across as self-assured (in the most positive sense) but knowing where you're going is the first step in any journey, and it can get overwhelming when you're 8-9 updates in and every fan is complaining about something different, you're feeling burnt out from working on the projet too long, and you still haven't figured out where to take the story... that's when devs quit.

TL;DR this is an outstanding job, eggrik! In my opinion, you should be feeling super proud of yourself for this excellent first entry and if you keep this up I am certain you will be super successful.

WOW!!! Thank you for much for all of the love and support, Max! I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to try out my game, enjoying it, and leaving all of this amazing feedback with me. I can't lie: I was grinning the whole time reading your comment. It feels indescribably amazing knowing the project I've poured so much work and time into is being so appreciated by people like you and everyone else in this thread.

Thank you for your vote of confidence, and I hope I can continue to develop an amazing game with an enjoyable story and (eventually) steamy, hot porn for you all to enjoy! I will be happily working on this game for the foreseeable future knowing I have you and others kindly supporting me.

Good looking girls.

Those long tangents on talking though, here's hoping that's only for this update. The long yapping on this first release is still forgivable as this is just the start, but more of that on later releases would be really bad. If the MC and the girls are getting to know each other then it should be as meaningful and you should accompany it with an activity/date (something small or brief will do as well) to do. The MC and the girls getting delights while only one of them mostly talks is not really good.

Most often, I see that lots of writers often rely on pop culture references amongst dialogue to set that as the "getting to know each other" phase. That's where a lot useless talking comes however, you did good with Crystal if you want an example of a good "getting to know each other phase". Still, a lot of that talking can still be reduced.

Lastly, here's hoping that the MC can actually go pursue his medical career. It'd be kinda' lame to just go for the route where, he "realized that his heart really belongs to be an idol manager" schtick like that. Just as the girls progress through their Idol career, it'd be nice for us to see his eventual growth as a doctor be seen by the girls too.

That's one way for the girls to get to know the MC as well, depict some scenes of him studying, reading books on medicine or maybe give him something of a hobby (any "thing/stuff/object/activity/special/unique" that he does) where some of the girls (or individually) can participate (or curiously observe him) as well.

There will be a good back and forth, of the girls getting to know the MC and him knowing the girls vice-versa.

Is this gonna be a harem? How would that work? I really like harem in modern settings, but too much drama is bad (i.e. how writers often want something "realistic" as well for their modern setting harem). The girls being Idols alone will make a lot of drama already, the fact that its a realistic setting as well. What happens if one of the girls know each one of them is a having a thing with the MC? etc. etc.?

It'd be easier if the world/society itself allows it, Cosy Cafe is an amazingly good example of this.

If you're gonna push for an actual harem here then it would be good to see the MC get the girls and actually make them his girlfriends and not just sex buddies, a good harem accompanies amazing romance segments after all and not just mindless sex.

At the risk of making a useless comment, I think this is really well said and good feedback overall.

I think it might be hard for the MC to both be a doctor and a manager, but I agree he should at least be trying. It might also add help variety to the story so that not everything has to involve an idol setting.

I couldn't agree more on the pop culture references thing. As someone who likes gaming but never really played Super Smash Bros other than a couple times when the OG came out, I didn't really care much about that long conversation with Ruby. I was just clicking through it for the most part. Now if the MC had met her and they went into the house for a quick match while Crystal was on the phone, I think I would have enjoyed that scene infinitely more. Making nods to pop culture can be useful but it also risk alienating those players (readers?) who don't really care for a specific interest. It's like a bit of salt. Add a little and it's flavorful; add a lot and you ruin the recipe.

And +1 on the comment about harem and romance. Having them all be his girlfriends would make for an immensely more interesting story than just a random fuckfest.

Progress Report #01

⭐ Hello, everyone! This is my first Progress Report of many to come. ⭐

First of all, my first few Progress Reports will definitely be open to the public until I feel justified enough to paywall it for pledgers in the future. I gotta make sure they aren't pledging for nothing!

Secondly, I want to thank everyone for taking the time to try out what I've developed so far with STELLA's 0.1 release. I received an amazing amount of feedback, both positive and negative, so I greatly appreciate those of you who shared your thoughts with me. To me, even the negative feedback is extremely helpful because it points out my weaknesses as a new developer. I want to improve in areas that feel lacking to make STELLA a better AVN for everyone. Moreover, constructive criticism will keep me on my toes and prevent any stagnation or plateauing of quality.

With that, I am extremely excited to continue developing STELLA for many years to come. All of the love and support from everyone has been a great motivator. I was pretty anxious and nervous to release my passion project of the last 9 months to the public, so being met with all of these positive opinions have been super reassuring. Thank you. I hope you are all looking forward to more as I continue to develop and share the story (and hot, steamy porn) of STELLA.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

For my next steps, I will soon be releasing a minor update of STELLA 0.1.1 to address some minor issues and additions, like typos, minor dialogue changes, more Lexicon/Dictionary terms, etc. There is nothing worth downloading and replaying for, so please save your time and bandwidth if you've already played the 0.1 update. I just want to release this minor patch to make it an improved experience for people who haven't played yet. I will also create some custom renders for my beloved friends who pledged a higher tier with that benefit during 0.1's development. I would've finished these a lot sooner, but my full-time day job was pretty demanding this month after I released (thank god it didn't delay public release any further). My schedule should be a lot more lax in October, so I can finally start working on STELLA development again.

Speaking of development, it's time to talk about the technical side of 0.2's development. I will be burning my Honey Select 2 Better Repack and starting fresh. Of course, I will be backing up my repack and copy over all the important things like character cards and whatnot to the new repack. I am doing something so demanding because I want to have the latest and greatest with HS2 BR16, Hanmen's Graphics Plugin (v1.2), and Hanmen's Next-Gen Shaders (v4.0). These new upgrades will address a lot of the issues I've had with HS2 Studio, introduce new QOL and helpful features, and ideally improve my renders of STELLA 0.2 and onward. I also need to mess around with Studio to make and tune new graphical presets that will not be too jarring from 0.1's visuals but still improve future updates. I am fully aware of some graphical weaknesses/issues, like character skin being too "washed out," that will hopefully be fixed with these upgrades/revamps. With a fresh repack, I will also be spending a lot of time downloading all the mods from all of my pledged HS2 modders (who deserve all the money in the world for their amazing work and dedication for our community). My poor 2TB SSD will suffer, but it will be worth it in the end once everything is set up.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Finally, for the juicy part of the Progress Report, I will share my plans for STELLA 0.2. I want to preface this by saying I don't know how long it will take me to release the next update. 0.1 was unfortunately a longer dev cycle of 9 months thanks to the peaks-and-valleys of busyness with my day job and whatnot. I would've loved to finish it a lot sooner, but STELLA is currently a passion project/hobby, so it's hard to find proper time to get some productive work done. However, a lot of 0.1's development effort went into setting up the foundation of the game: the coding, the photocard album, other menus, logistics, etc. With that being solidified, I will have a lot more time to work on the script and renders of 0.2 and onward. In other words, 0.2 will be a LONGER update! I am currently drafting the outline of 0.2's story and will be spending the next week or so fleshing it out to capture all the story beats and stuff I want to include this time around. Fortunately, I will not be running out of ideas for updates any time soon. I have been writing down all of the important things related to STELLA in my own personal Discord server, such as future story events, character dynamics, and sex scenes, positions, and kinks.

Yes, there will be A LOT OF SEX IN STELLA! Don't worry, my fellow degenerates. Even though I want STELLA to be leaning towards a slow-burn, comfy story, that doesn't mean there won't be a shit ton of hot, steamy sex in my ADULT Visual Novel. On that note, I fully intend to make STELLA a meaningful game with girls you will learn more about and love even more. I think deep emotional connections will amplify the porn of the game, and I hope all of you can be patient and look forward to it. If you want a mindless harem fuckfest, you got plenty of other games and stuff for that in the meanwhile. On that note, I want to include at LEAST two H-scenes for STELLA 0.2. I think the toughest part of making a more realistic and enjoyable AVN story is finding a way to incorporate sex scenes that make sense with the plot progress and character dynamics and aren't just thrown into your face with porn logic which requires suspension of disbelief. However, I am confident I can fit at least the two ideas I have in mind, so please look forward to it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

With that, I am going to wrap up some project work for my day job and then finally start working towards my development of STELLA 0.2. Once again, thank you for all of the love and support from you all. I sincerely appreciate it, and I hope I can continue to deliver an excellent AVN for you all.

Much love,
eggrik

Played 0.1, it was good. I like the Idol manager setup, I dont really know anything about idols or idol culture, but it seems like a good setup for a VN. Some of the conversations run a little long, especially the first one with Jay in the KBBQ place, its never anything horrible, but its something to keep in mind.

The girls designs and personalities are good, its clear a large amount of work was put into making them look good, and I think it pays off. I like Crystal a lot, might be because she has the most content so far, I dont know. Tiffany is cute, I like the short shy girl archetype so I might be biased. The other girls look good too, but I dont really think we have had enough time with them to pass any judgements yet.

I dont really know why this game is set in USA, every time a character said something about being in the US it kinda took me right out of it, none of the characters are American, and the only things to exemplify that its in the US are really minor (like them not working on weekends). Clearly the game wears its Korean influence on its sleeve (the dialogue shows this well, it reads like a lot of other Korean VNs and stories I have read), so I dont really understand why its set in the US, not necessarily a bad thing, just a bit confusing.

The use of text effects is great, I realized part way through reading this that text effects are really a VN only thing, so its cool to see a VN taking advantage of that.

Great attention to detail, especially with the environments, which all seem to be custom, I dont know if they are custom, but they look good regardless so I dont care.

I like the LoL reference, it made me chuckle.

Occasionally the character scale doesnt really make sense, for instance in the scene when the MC meets Tiffany she seems shorter than 5'2, or maybe crystal seems taller than 5'7? I dont know

It isn't too noticeable, and I didn't really take the time to try and measure anything, I just eyeballed it so I might be wrong.

I like when the characters have an emotional connection before lewd scenes start to happen, and it seems like that's what this game is going for, so + points for that.

All in all this is a really solid start, I am excited to read more.

STELLA [0.1.1] ⭐ Patch Notes

Hello everyone!

I have been pretty busy with my day job for the last couple of months, but I finally managed to address all of the changes/feedback I received during 0.1 to make STELLA a better experience with 0.1.1. There is nothing worth replaying for, so please save your time and bandwidth. This update and its changes are just to improve the experiences of new and mobile players. Additionally, it is to set myself up for more success with future updates by having better continuity and more coding foundations. With 0.1.1 released, I can now work on the 0.2 update, which should be a longer update thanks to not having to deal with all of the coding and setup that I already did in 0.1!

Download it for free here:

[0.1.1]
ALL PLATFORMS:
- Upgraded my code for the Phone UI. The person's name/group chat name will now stay displayed at the top of the chat like any other messaging software.
- Changed a majority of the intermission screens from the overused "A few minutes later..."
- Upgraded the STELLA HQ building exterior. Credits to Godsent for creating it in Blender and Reddss for porting it to HS2
- Fixed some minor clipping in some renders
- Dialogue that has multiple characters speaking at the same time has been improved. The two textboxes will now be side-by-side and share the same (optional) textbox background. (Previously, they were on top of each other and their textbox backgrounds overlapped if enabled)
- Fixed/added code to hide the (optional) textbox background during transitions/animations to improve the viewing experience
- Added new terms to the dictionary/lexicon (e.g. Main Vocalist, Lead Vocalist, Lunchables)
- Fixed a small continuity error
- Adjusted some dialogue for better clarity or future continuity
- Fixed typographical errors

MOBILE:
- Added mobile gestures to make the mobile experience better. Swipe up for the game menu ("ESC" on PC), swipe down to hide the game menu ("H" on PC), swipe right to skip ("CTRL" on PC), or swipe left to rollback ("scrolling up" on PC)
- Improved the tutorial to accommodate for mobile controls
- Fixed minor text spacing issues in the Gallery for mobile

Since you seem to be relatively well knowledgeable about coding for Ren'py. I would suggest to add testing mechanic on the volume sliders, this would mute everything else and then let the player hear a small sound of that specific thing and thus allow the player to determine the volume for that thing at the start of the game. If you want to go further, you could separate all the voices to their own volume sliders so if there is a voice someone doesn't like hearing they could turn it off.

The fade to black that you use should really fade in or have a symbol telling you to click to proceed. Otherwise it is just weird there are some auto transitions and some non auto.

It would be nice to know where Stella sits on their career. Like they have had 2 managers, and are making a comeback which normally means a few years of doing the job, however most successful and adult aged idols move to their own place. It would also show what is expected, a manager of a somewhat getting big group vs a mega star group would be very different.

Via tags I would say that point and click doesn't fit at this moment.

Thanks for the feedback and interesting suggestions! I appreciate you helping me make STELLA a better game and reading experience for everyone. I actually went ahead and tackled your suggestions today:

- Added code to automatically play a sound effect at the new sound level when the Sound or Voice volume channels are changed for testing
- Added a "loading" icon (it's the STELLA gem spinning at the bottom-right of the screen) to prompt players to act whenever the game was paused (for example, the screen fades to black and displays "A few minutes later..." as a transition)

These changes will be included in the 0.2 update, so please look forward to seeing your suggestions come to life then!

As for your point about STELLA's current position in their career: it was stated by the MC while we was walking around the house by himself that they debuted last year. Crystal mentions in the interview scene that the previous two managers were terminated due to personal reasons and incompetence. The upcoming comeback stage later in the story will be their second album, so they're pretty fresh but still world-renown. I will hope to make that clearer with the script in version 0.2. Once again, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and suggestions with me!
