I played The Last Sovereign a few years ago and I liked it. I thought the sex scenes were well written, but I recognize that the majority of players of erotic games are stimulated visually more than written. Incidentally, Sierra knows this as well, but she couldn't afford to pay for the artwork to do visual sex scenes. So she's making due as best as she can.

The problem I had with the game was that, while the gameplay mechanics were good, they made the game long enough that it conflicted with my playing higher tier games like Halo, Mass Effect, etc. I can devote a few hours to play a Visual Novel, but between my day job and my "After Dark" job, my free time is fairly limited.

So I liked it, but not as much as other things that vie for my time. I think Sierra definitely deserves her success though.

I honestly think the sex scenes there could be completely removed and it would still be a great game. They are there for a reason, of course (being the curse of the stone the MC has to endure). But my point is that even if they are indeed a couple of static drawings and another couple of text walls, I didn't play that game for the porn, but rather the whole story.

It is quite a long game, indeed, but I enjoyed it bit by bit. There aren't too many games on the consoles that can catch my attention, so this was a great match for me.

Another one, not as long as The Last Sovereign but also very well written is Maids and Masters from The Mithril Hourglass. Usually, I'm not too fond of the maid theme. I dislike it and find it boring.

But this game was written in such a way, and the bond/relationship between the MC and his maids is developed so deeply and meaningfully that I got hooked to the game, and joined supporting the dev on itch to get it.

Again, I know these may not be of the OP's liking as they are harem-themed games, but still, the story is so well-developed and the characters so well-fleshed out that even tho it does have a lot more sex scenes in comparison with The Last Sovereign, I consider it a story-first-oriented game.

I'm sorry this is not a game... but someone just posted Fine Print comic here at f95, so I just thought I'd share the info to the one group on this site, who I know will like good story-telling in their erotica.

Fine Print is a wacky-premised, modern fantasy erotica -- involving gods of lust, divine contracts, etc, -- but at its heart it's a story about some of the most human experiences we've all been through.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

So, if you don't mind the comic book format, I highly recommend checking this one out.

We've discussed Stjepan Sejic's earlier comic - Sunstone - here in this thread a few years ago. Fine Print is quite similar. Both are ultimately about sex, and yet there isn't the slightest bit of porn in either. I strongly recommend them.

Sunstone is just delightful, I love the characters. Wouldn't mind at all if someone would tackle a game, animated series, live action, whatever, as long as we get more of it. :)

Don't know about Fine Print yet, there's not much of it out, but it certainly seems... enticing.
Oh that'd be really nice.

Normally, I'm an "animation is the best way to adapt comics" type of guy, but...

A live-action Sunstone series in the hands of a capable director would be one of the best things ever.

While Fine Print would definitely work perfectly in animated format.

I'm trying to give Corporate Culture a chance but I'm having a really difficult time understanding why people enjoy it. The mc seems like an obsessive weirdo regarding Alice, Elsa is rude and really feels like she's manipulating the mc somehow, and the story doesn't seem like anything special. I haven't gotten far into the game yet, so perhaps my opinion will change. I'd also highly recommend Superhuman by WeirdWorld if no one has mentioned it.

This is my personal "F95 Zone greatest AVNs of all time"

1) Pale Carnations

2) Corporate Culture

3) Being a DIK

4) everything Tlaero & Mortze made (being Finding Miranda and Saving Chloe my favourites - just because Miranda is my favourite character :) )

5) Friends in Need

6) La Fille de la Zone aka Sophie: the Girl from the Zone

7) A Struggle with Sin (I know, I know, this is a RPG)

8) Rovering to Sussex

9) Now and Then (it has some flaws, anyway)

10) One Day at a Time

My Biggest disappointments (really really good AVNs that went totally south):

- City of Broken Dreamers, Hillside and MIST because the stories went totally south after a while (CoBD after Henry dies; Hillside after Zak is killed; MIST after MC and the girls run away and leave their house); Hillside will never be completed, anyway
- Summer Scent because it will NEVER be completed and the Author is definitely stuck with the story
- Estate: Dominate because it's abandoned even though its scammer dev claims he's still working on it (yeah, whatever).

Can anyone tell me what's so great about "Leap of Faith"? I've read a lot of reviews and comments praising it as one of the best NV out there, but I'm just not drawn to the characters and I've already downloaded it 3 times trying to follow the story, but I'm so disinterested, I've only gotten as far as the part after the plane ride.

So I want to ask if something more interesting happens later.

I thought it was really good, especially compared to most of what is out there in the adult VN category. It gets complicated and you do have to make some hard choices about which women you want to pursue. I think it will grow on you, if you give it a chance, but at the end of the day if a VN works or not often depends if it clicks for you personally.

honestly Id say depends on who you ask. To me Leap of faith is overrated and really isn't that good of a game. The only thing that was good was playing Cece's path and her storyline. But even then I felt the ending was rushed and should of had like 1-2 more chapters at the very least. At least when it comes to Cece's path I felt the ending was rushed. You take Cece out of the game or jusy focused on everything else the game is below average in my honest opinion.

The only other character I somewhat liked or found interesting was Stephaine. I only played 2 paths never played Lexi , Linda or whatever else just didn't care enough about their character or felt interesting enough to warrant a play. Tho this was before I started to play every path in games. I might go back and play them one day. Just to see what the big deal is about Lexi

I'm totally with you, bro! I don't see any positive traits in Leap of Faith. The models are mostly ugly, the characters are very dull and boring, the story, especially some parts of it, is so implausible and stupid that it is just feels cringey, the game mechanics are cumbersome.

I quit at the same point as you, because the whole Lexi plot was just totally unbelievable, with a top superstar falling at a glance for a boring sewer with stupid jokes.
The other totally sham plot line is the Stephanie's one.

This is one of the worst games I tried to play on this site.
Well, I guess this is the case when millions of flies cannot be wrong

Can anyone tell me what's so great about "City of Broken Dreamers" and "Eternum"? I've read a lot of reviews and comments praising it as one of the best AVNs out there, but I'm just not drawn to the characters and I've already downloaded both a few times trying to follow the story, but I'm so disinterested, I've dropped CoBD at chapter 5 and Eternum at chapter 2, and can't bring myself to continue. And yeah, I'm not just being snarky, I really can't continue playing these games, the porn scenes don't make up for the boredom and lack of interest in the plot.

You know, lately I don't even bother reading most of the reviews unless they're from people I know. I just give them to the AI and ask it to give me a summary of the so-called "thoughts" of the fellow zoners. I think you can do the same and understand the general public sentiment towards this game.

But I can still give my answer, for what it's worth. Since you're not even halfway through the game, I'll try to avoid spoilers.
You didn't say what exactly you find interesting, so how are we supposed to know? For some, the more kinky, the more interesting. For some, personal stories and relationships between characters are interesting, for others, a certain plot lines.

I'll just say that there's a pretty big and shocking twist at the end of the game, although I wouldn't say it's very unexpected. What makes it shocking to me is the emotional tone and the game's author's attitude towards it.
The vacation at Lexi's villa is probably the biggest and most entertaining scene in the game, overall I find it very good, and more interesting than what happened before.
For me, perhaps the most interesting moments in the game are the personal stories of the characters, their personalities, how they are revealed during the game, for example when they are playing Truth and Dare.
I also like some scenes, their emotionality and drama, or, on the contrary, the touching naivety and sincerity of the characters.
I like the overall rather bright, positive, goofy and carefree mood of the game, despite some rather dark topics that the author touches upon. As usual, all crises are resolved in favor of the main character and a happy ending is imminent.
There are definitely some sexy times in the game, and I think there are enough of them to consider it even too porny for this thread :)

These are my thoughts on what interesting things you can expect from this game.

Of course there is more than enough to criticize, often the characters behave cringe-worthy, some twists seem just comedic pretending to be serious, for example I just hate the whole Agent Panda storyline, I don't know, to me it looks like the "Chuck" TV Series. Frankly, when I started playing this game I didn't like it at all, the scene with Cece jumping in the second chapter (it was the second chapter, right?) and the MC catching her at the last second seemed too fake to me that at first I thought it was some kind of prank. Good thing there was no The Boys back then.
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
But I know I wasn't entirely fair and jumped (no pun intended) to conclusions too quickly without knowing her background and motivations. It was a good lesson: don't be too quick to criticize, especially if the game isn't finished yet (which was the case when I played it).

Well, let's move on. I don't like that the author introduced a bunch of characters into the game and outlined many plot lines, but didn't develop them at all. The ending of the game seems to me to be somewhat rushed, I think, there could have been enough content for another game like this. But that's just my opinion.

You know what. Your post actually answers your question, you said you weren't drawn to the characters and the plot wasn't interesting. As one good dev said "a game for everyone is a game for no one."
Just find other games you enjoy and come back to this one if you ever feel like it.

Haha you dropped COBD where I did, I do plan to eventually try to give it another go but doubt i'll like it since I couldn't get into any of the characters.

Personally I do think Eternum is overrated even if it does make my top 15 AVN list , but my list is base on enjoyment / how much I like something and not the quality. The characters is the only reason I stick around but it did take a bit for me to get into it. But I will say I dislike all the VR bits about the game for the most part only liked the real world. Story has bits and piecie were it's decent but never thought it was as good as others make it out to be.

If you guys dropped COBD after chapter 5, I wouldn't recommend giving it another try. Things go clearly downwards from Chapter 8 on, at least in terms of writing. So if you weren't hooked before that point, I'd say don't bother with it. To me, it works as a nice and intriguing game with an open ending at the end of Chapter 7 -or Book 1 for Steam players.

It doesn't really mater. Both story and character development are blatantly worse in the second part of the game. It soon becomes a sex romp where the MC roams around the city from booty call to booty call to make every LI's fan happy enough with the number of scenes their fav girl gets.

My thoughts are the same bro! I don't feel anything for almost any of the characters and that includes the MC, I think the worst of all this is the music star and the plane ride to a party, there's no point in doing that if you don't care much about the characters yet, because when you do care about them just a bonfire around them while they talk is enough to make it memorable.

The models seem good to me, I don't have many complaints there and the only character that interested me was the girl who wanted to commit suicide, too bad the plane ride killed my desire to get the story, maybe one day I'll give it a more drunken try to hold out until I get to her part of the story.
