Does anybody hang yet? Or is it still the mindless build up?
hi.
as much fun as it can be to take cringe bait like this, I'm going to take the high ground here and turn this into a teachable moment.

the primary focus of this project is a story that tackles deep, existential topics related to friendship, communication, and acceptance as they revolve around the topic of sexuality and coming-of-age. The adult genre let's me explore all of those without a filter and the boundaries there are almost limitless. that's powerful in a polarized world and the thousands of letters that i've received and continue to receive substantiate that. The genre also allows me to reach people who may be struggling with those ideologies but still remain in their personal closet by secretly exploring those instincts through games like this. giving those people a voice is important to me and it's been rewarding for thousands of readers

In short: there's limitless positive things I can do with this genre besides make people's wieners squirt 'cause that shit is basic.

no really. It's as basic as you can get.

anyone who's set foot in an introduction to psychology class knows there's quite a bit of complexity to the human condition that goes beyond "banging." Here's a pretty popular diagram to jog your memory:

View attachment maslow-hierachy-of-needs-min.webp

"Banging" is at the bottom and is physiological-- meaning it has zero mental component-- making it, quite literally, as "mindless" as you can get. Instead, you've somehow mistaken a physiological need as being intellectually stimulating. Your definition of "mindless" just sounds more like indifference to all emotional states and the elevation of your own basic animal instincts. It ignores everything that isn't chemical and I just really demand more of people than that-- I demand more from a reader than that. hell, most people do-- that's why there's a pyramid in the first place. The adult genre can be so much better than endless sequences of people stuffing each other's unprepped shitboxes. I want story. I want substance and I want something that makes me think. I want something that covers everything in the pyramid and not just "banging."

If you want basic porn tropes with no substance, then perhaps maybe order a pizza when you're broke or maybe climb into the washing machine and pretend your stuck. Me? I'd rather do something different with my project and not make something that's exactly like all the overused sexual, adult plot points. that shit just doesn't stimulate me at all and there's nothing unique about it.

If more detailed content isn't for you-- that's fine. if tons of dialogue, banter, or corny friendship moments that sometimes lead to more steamy moments isn't for you-- that's fine. you're allowed to have your preferences and i fully support you in that.

this story is long. it's detailed. it tackles some heavy shit-- especially for an adult game. if you're not looking for that then you just simply move on and look for something that's more cliche and basic. it's not necessary to label a story that tackles heavy issues related to the LGBT community as "mindless" because honestly, as the pyramid suggests: it's very much the exact opposite of that and maybe that's the problem. some people dont want to think about advanced shit when they're playing an adult game and the bulk of this story does exactly that.

But demanding that a story that covers the entirety of the human condition, reduce itself to just covering basic physiological instincts and be just another boring sex game is the very definition of mindless and I'm not gonna do that. the content in this game will continue to get even more deeper-- chapter 6 really started the serious beginning of that but 8, 9, and 10 take that to an entirely new level and i wouldn't dream of changing that because they were the most popular chapters in the game

I support your artistic endeavors and only therefore point out that it is unwise to use as an argument only one of the psychological theories as some kind of irrefutable fact or ultimate truth, moreover, not your own theory and requiring its own evidence base and having a sufficient number of flaws, being very young in a scientific field that is itself young.

Apart from this, I have nothing to add, since I do not touch upon the discussion of this work, which is unique in its own way and has a certain influence on the community. :coffee:

PS. The latter meant that you don't have to answer me. I come to read, but I avoid participating. Even with the creator of this remarkable game.

yep. for sure. i agree no one theory summarizes everyone or anything. the individuality of people will always be more complex than any one theory or even dozens of theories can explain-- in fact one of the main plot points of this story argues that in multiple contexts. i'm just using maslow here for simplicity and familiarity (i doubt anyone has the patience for me cite empirical evidence in APA format-- especially on this page). while anyone can argue points of his theory (in particular the order of the hierarchy) he makes a pretty good argument for there being more to life than people's buttholes and that's the audience that i'm interested in tapping into. I'm fine including adult content but i'm going to do it when the plot needs it just like any other plot device. it's for adults so i sorta just expect people to act like adults. i appreciate you stating the story is unique and i enjoy taking that approach and doing way more world-building than what people are used to in the genre because that's what i like to read. that's not for everyone and that's fine. it's not like i'm milking-- the story is free. someone calling that "mindless" is just embarrassing to read when the topics of the story explore things like friendship, communication, self-acceptance, mistakes, and drawing unfair conclusions about others. luckily the story content weeds most drama and hecklers out and i'm grateful for that.

thanks so much for reading

Hey there are multiple choices right? Like shower, go to the bathroom, skip class or study, watch tv? Does picking one event skip the others? Do the other events pass up and we can't see what happens there unless we do a different playthrough? Is it a big deal or am I just worrying too much because it doesn't do anything to the story? Like watch tv or study brings different interactions and is it supposed to be that way? like you have to make a"choice" or is it just not that deep? also are there bugs in the game? Like I am only on chapter2 but there are times when i pick an event but scene ends with the other event ending. For example, when zack presents the onesie to braden i picked to study but the scene ends with them going to sleep watching tv?

heya (again). sorry if i was short before on the response. the friggen character limit had me struggling with trying to answer your question on that profile page so apologies if i appeared abbreviated or short with ya. wasn't my intention.

So I'll give ya 2 answers: a shorter one and then a detailed one and you can pick whichever one you prefer.

short answer: in most cases, whether you choose bathroom, shower, homework, or tv, it shouldn't impact the overall story. you won't miss large chunks or things like that. many of those choices simply just give you extra events or could stimulate a conversation, background, information, or maybe other conversation choices that pop up later in the story for continuity. but it won't affect the overall story. the only choice that affects the overall story majority is the pervy vs respect route choice at night when zack has a choice whether to peek while braden is sleeping or not.

long answer: so everything above still applies here obviously but this version of the game is also a "revamp" of the original. while i've never written a story or coded a game before, i tried out a few things during the original game and some of those worked and maybe some didn't as much. however, it was important to me and to many of the fans to not change things in the revamp from the original so i took that seriously. In the original game, when you had multiple choices, there were certain orders that could unlock a progression forward in the story. so you kinda had to figure out the right combination as the days scrolled through. when i was working on the revamp, i didn't like this mechanic at all so i eliminated it and made things more linear. however, all the conversation choices and stuff still remain to keep things original so if you were a fan of all the homework bonding stuff, you could still do that and not affect the story, or if you liked the goofy stuff that happened during tv events, you could still do that. the bathroom was kinda different. some people may find bathroom content uncomfortable so i wanted to make sure all of those events at the urinal were avoidable. there are other conversations that get unlocked as a result of those choices but many are background information, stories from their past, or just other insights into their personalities.

for example, in one scene, if you choose the bathroom, there's a conversation about pranks which unlocks a story about bullies from braden's past in the cafeteria later but those don't have an impact on the overall story.

imo, you would not have to play through all the choices because it's pretty minimal in how they affect the story. basically, i have pretty serious concentration issues so trying to juggle multiple storylines in my first project was pretty overwhelming, so i stuck to a more linear story with a few choices here and there to do what you want to provide opportunity for extra events.

hopefully, that's the answers you were looking for. if not, you can ask follow-ups. i tend to ramble :p

Following Straight!? being featured in the Melbourne Queer Games Festival, I was approached by Davey and Mitch to be a guest on their podcast. While I'm generally pretty shy about any type of spotlight, after watching a few of their other interviews, I was really impressed with the questions they were asking other developers and they just seemed like two really good guys to chat with.

I'm generally a pretty scattered person and I think writing gives me a chance to slow my brain down and do a lot of editing so that I can make some sort of sense-- interviews don't exactly allow for that so I was pretty nervous. We ended up sitting down a few weeks ago and I'm glad that I did it because it ended up being a lot of fun. These guys were super fun, the questions were fair and genuine, and they did a good job keeping me on task.

So here, for the first time ever, is very much an authentic interview with me about the project that clocks in at just under 1 hour.

There's two ways to check it out:

Also, if you haven't seen these guys before, go check out their , , , and follow them on . These guys were super kind to me and I'd really appreciate you guys just taking a few minutes to go check them out, follow, like, leave comments-- just let them know what you think and give them some traffic. It was a great opportunity and I'll be forever grateful they even asked me.

Thank you for the interview, sincere yet very cozy. Several years after I was first met with your artwork, it was surprising and exciting to hear your voice ^^. I still use translators, but in my and their excuse, they've gotten better, I guess xD. Good works of art differ from not-so-good (●‘◡’●) works of art in that they speak to the reader/viewer/listener, help him/her/them to understand himself/herself/theyself correctly, and your artwork is exactly that. Such artworks don't just cross oceans, they easily break the walls of what are called “traditional Values”. Thank you for deciding to do this. And what about the idea folder? (^///^). Probably rambling again, just wanted to say again that I love this story.

thank you for the kind words and thank you for the long time follow of the project. i'm always amazed at the extra steps some people have to take to try and dissect my excessively long little romance story. whatever translator program you're using probably has it's work cut out for it cause i even sometimes make my own words up :p But it means everything to me to know that you can relate. with the world so divided right now, it always feels good to have a few things that small groups of us can unite and experience together. thank you so much for reading and for taking the time to check out the interview <3

Played the old version today and man do we have to catch up a lot!
Apart from the more modern look i don't understand the necessity of this revamp.
I llllllllloved it.
Very nice story build and hot as fuck.
Is this one going to end the same way?
Without any lube again? o_O

heya. i deleted part of your question in my reply since there's an entire new generation of people that haven't played the original and I'd really encourage you to use spoiler tags so you dont ruin any parts of the story for them. i have people on the discord that will come after spoilers with their claws out.

but the point of the Revamp is pretty much everything. I had zero experience when i started this in terms of every possible thing required to do it: no writing, no 3d art, no coding, no business, no marketing, no story writing, no idea what i was doing, and famously no outline. i quite literally just sat down and started writing and figured it out as went. after 6 years for the completed original version, i learned a ton. by the time i got to the end, i realized how much i'd grown and the ending quality of the game did not math the beginning at all and since thousands of people were really depending on me for this thing, i wanted it consistent. so the original plan was to make the full game meet the quality of the end of the original. however, once i started the revamp, something entirely new started up and the quality skyrocketed beyond anything that I'd actually had goals for. I also had newer computer upgrades based on the donations so i could afford to put more characters on screen and flesh out the world more. So the revamp is that and it blows the old one completely away.

Revamp has thousands of more images-- at least 3 to 4 times the images. way more personal facial expressions to bring the scenes to life. we'll see way more interesting camera angles as well as more shots of all of the environments in the game to include more students similar to what we see by the end of the original. the writing is way more polished because i learned a lot and i wanted to take that back and really clean things up. the original was very much a rough draft. The revamp has animations (most in 4k and 60fps because i'm trying to learn how to do that in real-time now). the animations from the original (please dont mention any spoilers here) will be pulled into the revamp when we get to that point because i wanted to keep those since the guy who did them isn't around anymore but i want to preserve his work. The revamp also has a fully licensed music soundtrack with dozens of tracks as well as sound effects. honestly, the revamp if you ever check it out, will make it's own case for why it was needed. it's a completely different experience and like 5 minutes of playing and you'll see the beginning of the difference and it only gets better from there.

but to answer the other question you mentioned sorta generically: the revamp will follow the same story as the original. i'm not changing things because that's super annoying when writers do that.

Is there a Portuguese version? I love the game!
no official translations yet but it's a goal. i refuse to use AI on any part of this project but we have volunteers from the discord server that have been willing to take on the task. i just haven't gotten to it yet because I've been super busy with the revamp but there is definitely interest and Portuguese has been one of the most requested
