Genuinely shocked to see this one go. Especially after so many updates.

I don't know what the family situation is but I wish Flynn all the best with it.

Having seen quite a few games get abandoned, I do wish that more devs would set quicker and clearer end goals to their avns like 10 to 15 chapters. Also carefully consider and prepare financially and otherwise how to be a developer for the long term. As an outsider, observing it's a looongg process that takes years, effort and doesn't guarantee riches.

That's a general comment, its not specifically about Flynn. All the best to him with his new career.

Shame about the game but shit happens. At least you're not milking it ad infinitum like some.
Hope whatever is going on in your life gets better. Perhaps one day you come back or with a different project.
Good luck

Wether the Dev is telling the truth or not, why he is not continuing this VN it doesn't matter, but this is the reason i don't support these VN's any more. Shit happens that we can't control. These VN's take years to develope and nobody can see into the future what is going to happen. That's why i feel like Dev's should shorten their stories so that maybe they can crank out a story in less than 2 years. I mean shit is still going to happen but a shorter story has more chance to be finished.

why does that matter? You'd get the same amount of content regardless of length of "story". One could say that each "chapter" is supposed to be one "story", so this dev. did finish one "story". If you're just talking about getting an ending, then the story would be really barebones. There are old games like that around from Lesson of Passion, or longer games from Meet'N'Fuck like Starmission. That'd get you an idea of what one year games might be like.

Not necessarily. It depends on how the dev handles the pacing of the plot and relationships, how much content is in an update and how frequent the updates are.

One of the things I liked about Stray Incubus is that there was a good amount of content per update and very fast updates. However obviously it wasn't supposed to end here, so Flynn wouldn't be able to wrap it up with a final update. It is what is.

Well that sucks, really loved this one... At least Flynn was honest about it, instead of a lot of guys around here (like the dev from a certain mafia game). Sincerely wish all the best for him, and that he can overcome his problems whatever it are...

Finishing a chapter and finishing a story it totally different. Nah shorter stories doesn't have to be bare bones. I mean look at "Bare Witness" it wasn't really long but had a good amount of content. And besides that even if it was a little bare bones it beats not getting finished and having an ending.

Bare Witness's thread started in 2021 (Who knows how long the dev worked on it before it was posted here) and was just finished last year so I wouldn't call at least 3 years "short". IMO a story should be as long as the dev making it envisions it in his mind, as long as they are not doing it just to milk it. Sadly, shit can just happen no matter what.

Right. Short story doesn't equate to short development time. We're talking about the latter, and what can reasonably be generated at such.

I know i was just using that as a shorter story not being bare bones not how long it took to complete. Also 3 years is way shorter than most that's been in production for 4 or 5 years and no end in site. 3 years is pretty short time compared to most games on this site. Most games on here have been going on for 4 or 5 years and no end in site. Course some with lesser quality sure. But most games with Bare witness quality and content is taking way longer to complete.

alright. I'm starting to understand what you're trying to say. You're not really talking about a shorter story, but smaller games. While I believe this could work for Stray Incubus, it won't work for a lot of people. The story will turn out to be pretty shallow, so what you're depending on is either decent gameplay or Really hot graphics. A successful example would be chloe18 series. It's a shallow game, but there is actual gameplay, and the scenes are decent. Example of a not-so-great one would be Acting Lessons. You can see that it has a Hollywood Story. It's nice and short, but at the end, it depended on tugging on people's emotions to make a splash. It's fine and dandy, and entertaining enough; but it didn't feel like it was worth any money.

Hello Everyone Fans of Stray Incubus,
i am happy to announce the successors to Flynn for the development of Stray Incubus, peggy1303 and Ischwhit
I know many will fear, that it'll be not the SI you all know, but it's inevitable that things will change. However they are given everything Flynn has left us with, so they can continue the story roughly like Flynn envisioned it to their best capabilities.
I wish for everyone to be patient and looking forward what is ahead of us. Updates on the release of a new chapter will follow.

Additional for F95:
There is no more reason to specualte for you why Flynn has left us. The reasons are valid and be glad he is not a milker as other devs turned out to be. In fact he worked for the new chapter 3 even till the announcemt and the hard cut was less painfull for him eventho it still was, since he had to give up on his own project he loved and cared for.

Thanks for the post. Hopefully the story would be a as enjoyable (or even better) as before. :)

Kind of what I hoped for considering the situation. Will be very excited on how that turns out. Some change is inevitable, but preferable to the alternative of not seeing this continue. We will see what the two can make of this. I believe!

I'm really glad to hear that Stray Incubus found new devs to keep the project going. It would’ve been such a shame if it ended there, especially considering the great work Flynn put into it. Hopefully, the new team will stay true to the original storyline and keep the technical quality high.

This news should put an end to the conspiracy theories and toxic reactions around Flynn’s departure. It was about time we moved on from all that talk. Now we’ve got a reason to hope again. And before anyone starts with "it’ll never be as good as Flynn’s work" or "they won’t stay true to his vision," or any other nonsense talks like that, let’s just give the new devs a chance to show what they can do.
