You're only looking at this from a surface level, which isn't to say it's wrong, just that there's a lot more thought into the reasons as to why. Being on here, I'm sure you've witnessed plenty of games go either on-hold or abandoned where you might wonder how or why; you've probably also seen some games be incredibly successful but their progress begins to take a little longer or other content comes out before an update (such as custom renders). Please remember that for as much as each and every dev is doing what they're doing because they have a story they want to tell....they require money to survive.

It is a cutthroat industry and everyone is battling for support in their own ways, so they have to come up with unique options to garner said financial support. It's more than just making a game - afterall, once the game is completed what happens next? Flynn is a creator that has been shafted by early leaks which reduce financial support, which in turn means less output for continuing the game.

For as much as people can argue about being a pirate forum and releasing updates early, if a creator doesn't have a decent support (and financial) base, then all that'll happen is another game being labelled on-hold or abandoned and people bitching and moaning about why. When we all know why
and what do you think will more benefical??

10 High tier supporters paying $40-80 per month who most likely unsub after paying or maybe staying subbed...
or 500 to 1000 supporters paying lets say $5-10 per month who stay subbed because it isn´t so much because it will not hurt so much in someones purse???

i would rather have a few hundred supporters paying lets say $5-10 than maybe 10 or 20 high tier supporters that would likely unsub after paying once and change to a lower tier after an update is out.

the few hundred lower tiers will stay subbed every month and it brings them more money than high tier supporters that are not likely staying.
okay some would maybe but look at the numbers then what brings more money the low tiers from $5-10 Dollars or the few high tier supporters...

sometimes it can be daunting to have so high tier ranks and that can block the flow of lower tier ranks joining.
even more so when the timeframe from the highest tier to the lowest is mostly a month between.

there are a few devs that have tier ranks to only $15-20 dollars and that seems to work too.

i am not saying that Flynn974 should change something just saying it is crazy how much money some people pay for such as an gameupdate for a game in progress.
it is fine for me either way because i will pay for what i think to support, and everybody is free to do what he wants.

You're vastly overestimating subscriber counts, and that's a big issue. The majority of devs, especially for AVN's, are lucky to get a few hundred dollars a month from subscribers. How many paying patrons do you think Flynn has? I looked - it's 243. And if the average amount per patron is around $5 or so, that's only ~$1250 (not factoring in patreon fees). How much money do you need each month to live?

Business wise, even just a few of those high paying patrons can equate to 8-14 low paying patrons. It's not ideal, but look at what happens when you have a low ceiling for new updates - someone leaks the game and people paying feel shafted and take their money somewhere else.

For whatever flak Flynn may get for his tiers and pricing, it is somewhat working. Ideally more people pledge, which then reduces any financial stress, which could potentially knock down the price of those higher tiers...but then that in itself could then cause early leaks, costing said patrons and shifting the prices again. There will never be a fair and equal balance, because money is involved. You either accept the situation and either become a patron at whatever tier you feel comfortable with, or just support Flynn by speaking positively about his game, or you don't accept it and you're not paying already so you don't lose out on anything.

i know how many supporters Flynn has i am one of them.... ;)

and maybe you underestimating things??
and that is the point that are all estimated numbers all you see are the number of paying subscribers for all devs thats all or if the devs wants us to see his incomes.
and still other devs have that numbers of supporters and have not so high tier ranks.
and it doesn´t change that it is still crazy how many money some people spent for something called high tier ranks and the "benefits"

that is why i wrote that is what i think.....

i did not say that he has a few thousand bucks as income here and never would dare to say he should change it that is not the reason i wrote that all.

you never will see if something works for you, untill proven otherwise.
but that is not for me to say..

Whos whining?
People shouldn't pirate the game & atleast waiting
forgot your own posting??
you whining about pirating on a pirating forum obviously
you think if someone whoever leaks a game here, that the forumstaff will wait a few weeks to post it here??
if its not beeing leaked that only means the devs supporters respect him enough to wait till it is postet on the lowest tiers.....
and i doubt the both highest tier ranks would leak it here.
and given the fact it takes up to 3 weeks to a month before the update reaches the lowest tier it will take a while to get postet here.....

so again complaining about pirating on a pirating forum is well... o_O

The more weeb-y the game, the more people seem to be against leaks.

It has nothing to do with how "weeby" a game is, for most in this thread its hoping that the game doesn't get abandoned, right now the dev relies on the support from this game to continue developing this game, also, the dev is fairly active here, and I have noticed the more active a dev is in the community the less likely a game is to be leaked.

I guarantee you this is not the only thread that is vocal about not wanting leaks, almost every top game where ppl are a fan of the dev's work will have this argument between fans vs piraters when a new update comes out :KEK:

Yep I follow several games here, that rarely leak. They just get updated on their regularly scheduled public release date.

and i bet the first persons that will download a Leak from here when it gets postet are the ones that are complaining about leaks of these games
Meh, I tried that a few times for a few devs I really appreciate, it never works out well. Look and my notifications, see new comments on SI and wanna see what people are discussing or shit posting about just to get brutally spoilt. I'd prefer that the games I like not to leak, at least at the earlier tiers, but if they do I'm not going to ruin my own enjoyment of them over a matter of principle.
