Okay, it's an obvious and easy solution, but everyone just wants to argue that it's unnecessary. How is it unnecessary if people have an issue with it? Why would it take away from you in ANY way to Just Implement it? It doesn't, so why do you feel the need to debate?

there is also the dissonance between what is written and what you see. you see a woman, which throws you off

but... keep in mind that this scene happens immediately after importing a save from last version. So you have not seen your companions in months.
And throughout that scene they are shown in wildly differing lighting levels making it a bit unclear on a casual view how many of them are there and how many are passing local NPCs from the town.

careful examination (done now after the fact) shows that there are "only" 6 participants in that conversation.
MC, Old Man with pitchfork, Lumi, Lumi's mother, and two ninja companions that came with you.

but between the odd lightning, the moving perspective, introducing a bunch characters at once it is easy to lose track abit of how many people are immediately around.

Add to that the "young man" does not appear in the conversation in white, it appears in blue above. So your eyes are not focused on it, they are focused on the words said in white.
And it is there for a moment before being replaced by a name. And the fact Lumi LOOKS like a girl.
And it is very easy to miss that floating blue "name" of "young man".

Speaking of blue... every single floating name in the conversation is color coded.
But when "Young Man" becomes "Lumi" the color changes. "Young Man" is in blue while "Lumi" is in Yellow.
Further indicating they are separate individuals


It certainly would not hurt to be a little clearer.
Most important step I would say is to use the same speaker color

It's obvious and it gives you the male/male scene. The genderbend scene happens much later and is independent of the gay adjacent scene.
The later choice with Lumi at the brothel which gives gender swap is not obvious but it really shouldn't bother anyone. I'd rather doubt anyone's figuring it out until after the fact and even then it's not obvious. Lumi has a vagina and is in every way functionally a woman for that scene. So given that it's a prostitution scene and not in anyway a relationship scene so who the prostitute actually is shouldn't really effect you. Don't sleep with strange women you don't know the first time you talk to them if you don't want to find out there's things about them you don't like after.

not really. In games, there's a general level of expectancy that the writer will not throw you under the bus. If we want to be wary like IRL, then everyone should get tested for STI's before they have any intercourse.

Wtf are you talking about. No, it's not the first scene you get from loading the game. There's several scenes in the ninja village before including a big daring game segment with sex scenes, then Helena explains each mission and clearly assigns clear teams for each mission. This is done with the text and visuals, when they talk about visiting this town only Zycris, Hailey and Venus are on the screen. So you should understand who is involved.
Then they arrive at the village where they meet the old man with several back and forth shots featuring Zycris, Hailey and Venus on the one side and the old man on the other. So if you pay any attention it's clear there's one unnamed man, Zycris and Hailey and Venis. Then Lumi joins and shortly after his mother joins the conversation and that's when you see him described as young man. At this point it should be very clear that there's the old man, an older woman, Zycris, Hailey and Venus in that scene so the only one who can be classified as "young man" is Lumi.
Like ... come on man. I know people can miss stuff, but don't blame the game for that. You missed stuff.
And even if you miss it, I don't get what the issue is. Because the first choice that can potentially lead to lewd content with him, clearly labels him as a him. So, you know, just read the buttons you're going to click and you're gonna be fine.

Damn, that dare rock-paper-scissors game was really fucking hot. I really liked all parts of it. Especially the last parts with Centoria were really, really hot. Until the interruption.
I'm okay with that right now, since the rest of it was so good, but that also would have been an amazing way to have a first time with a girl. A real shame.
Flynn better not do that fucking "Look at each other -> cut to fucking like animals" after that for their first time. After having an amazing preamble like that interrupted, the preamble for the real first time needs to be at least as good.

Honestly it was imo already a mistake letting best girl Misty be entirely avoidable. A second avoidable character for joining the village would be too much. Given how Lumi might very well be dead on quite a few people's playthroughs that'd mean any scene in the village that has both Misty and Lumi in it is going to need 4 different version; a version with both of them, one with just Lumi, one with just Misty and one with neither of them.
Personally I agree, Lumi's best boi. Super cute and a total sweetie, even if he is a literal whore. Functionally though? Just seems like too much work for a character a lot of players would choose to avoid. Either the amount of renders needed for any village scene would skyrocket or he'd be criminally absent from village scenes.
