Yeah, like when Viridiana records Valentine's private conversations or snoops on his classified files...
I fairness, having just played it again, are we sure it's Elspeth doing the digging that caught the attention? It's certainly presented in a way that would make it an easy conclusion to draw, but it feels too easy/obvious.

It is hard to tell if that is the cause. It's the only thing we have seen that would have attracted that kind of thing but that's not saying there aren't other things going on behind the scenes.

Also, unless I am just seeing things it's pretty suspect that the hacker woman was outside of Els's garage when no one is supposed to know about it. Could be a red herring but it seems off to me. Or they are digging on her as well.

It could be a possibility, but she remains suspect

On my first playthrough I felt it was far more likely to be either of these things:
1. Investigations related to his citizenship application, since investigations of an elite foreign operative (such as Delta Force) would be far more stringent than a normal application, esp. with him quitting the way he did. That's extremely rare for elite soldiers.
2. Els' Dad checking into him, as it's obvious that he's close to his daughter, and the family is getting involved in their charity venture.
3. Old chickens coming home to roost. Something/someone from his military past ("dead" friend or not). Heck, it could even be related to Alistair or his mother.

I've seen nothing to change my mind. Yeah, the investigators seem sketchy, possibly government or military, but that can be private as well. Yes, there was passing resemblance to some faces we've seen in flashbacks. There was enough of a scope to the investigation that it triggered alerts to the CIA.

Els does not seem like someone to trust an outside team of investigators as much as her own judgement, but I could be wrong. Serena seems more likely to do that, but I don't see any motivation for her to do that. Davis seems more likely as a trigger for the investigation (his death triggered an investigation into possible causes, and his relationship with Val is an issue, or maybe Davis triggered an investigation for whatever reasons he really wanted to reunite).

Getting Valentine into trouble even from the grave is so in character for him XD

It's mentioned that "another party is interested in him" other than the usual citizenship stuff.

The investigators are the girls Els served with. She even shows him the photo in which three of them together, in military uniforms. Els doesn't know Anastasia (was it?), one of the investigators, is alive.

Els' dad may be behind the investigation, but letting Els live through the pain she does, because of losing Anastasia... I don't think he'd be that cruel against his own daughter.

My guess is, it's either old chickens or something to do Davis, as well.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if that "other party" was the CIA, with his friend monitoring his records, or if it was entirely something else. It seems so weird that Davis is alive and would have had anything to do with the ferry disaster, with his (wife/fiancee?) with him, unless it was an outside attempt on his life, but with their bodies not being recovered seems also a red flag.

He's a psycho manipulative asshole, but we may find out some mitigating information? Like, how could he not have known about Val's relationship before blowing away the insurgent team Val was working with? How could he not have know that would blow up any relationship he had with Val? He was in Military Intelligence. They would know that shit.

The Icelandic chick is CIA and she is warning Valentine, so I don't think it's the CIA.

The ferry disaster may very well be an inside job for Davis to disappear.

Davis knew about the insurgent team's location. He just got rid of the lose ends. He just didn't care about it at all.

None of your comments have any direct meaning with what I said.

Yes, the Icelandic chic is CIA and warned Val. It could be that her monitoring of his records was what the agents were discussing, or not. The CIA is a lot bigger than just her, and might be investigating Davis and/or Val as well (and might be why the ferry disaster happened).

Yes, the ferry disaster might be an inside job, but would he kill hundreds of people, including possibly his fiancee, to do that? Wouldn't there be easier ways to fake his death?

Davis obviously knew about the existence of the insurgents and their location. Did he know about Val's relationship with the female co-lead, and that they were engaged? In the game it's not clear that he did, IRL he would have that knowledge. We don't know those facts.

Just FYI, the first pic isn't referencing the guy in the last pic but someone else he met in the hallway.

Check In 06/01/2025

Hello everybody, a small bit of Vi today, welcoming you home after a long day. Been feeling wistful for a a nice welcome home recently so that's probably where the inspiration came from.
After the excitement of Jury duty (good god) I'm just chipping away at this final set of animations. While not overly complicated it's of a fan favourite and I've mentioned before that I want to get it right otherwise fans of said character might give me an ass whooping.
From my personal dev accounts that I can really chat about. It's not particularly fresh and exciting, but it is what it is. Some back end stuff I can mention, that special secret I commissioned is coming together, even the early draft is just so cool, honestly I'm almost more excited for it than anything else. A few folks already figured out what it was but I ask that you hold back and not tell folks cause I want it to be a pleasant surprise for the most people. I also put out some feelers on something else, but it might have to wait until after the update depending on how long it will take, hopefully hear back on it in a few days.
Otherwise just getting things in a ready state so the poor bastards who have to test and proof this sumbitch have plenty to chew on.
Appreciate your patience and your support and I hope you have a lovely week.
Sláinte!
