in the snowfield coming from the southern entrance, I see the rock, the tree, and I've walked 2 steps south from the tree. what exactly am I looking for?

You need to make ONE step south and press "Z".

I THINK don't have sex with sister of the boss before that point in the playthrough, if you never have sex with her then the boss won't get jealous and you can avoid that fight.
