This whole SummertimeSaga comparison remains bad. Sure, DC pockets a lot of money, but these guys got the money he made in his first 3 to 4 years slowly growing his project, right away upfront. I think we can agree that it's a huge difference whether you start your project as one dude who wants to teach himself coding and with ~zero cash to invest or as somebody who has got a team and 2 million to work with.
The biggest difference is actually that these guys here promised something to their backers and people payed for that, while SummertimeSaga has been free from day 1 and nobody ever had to pay cent to play it. If you make people pay upfront, you better deliver something that's as good as you promised, if you give away stuff for free, there's much more leeway.
