It's done recording is over sure it would make the voice actresses happy if they get recalled unless they didn't push a clause "we can call you anytime we want for re or new recordings without further payment" in the contract.

Unless of course they go real bigo and use ML synthesis ;)

If making things better would require too much resources then maybe they should look into it earlier and think where they can cut corners? There is a reason why all of these porn games here don't have full voicing - it's too fucking expensive. Instead only sex scenes or important story moments are voiced and money are put for better use. Is it great Subverse is fully voiced? Yeah, ofc, but not at the cost of sex scenes! Surely many people would prefer if only for example sex scenes, devotion quests and boss battles were voiced but have additional writing before and after sex scenes instead.

That way let's make a game which is only 1 hour long and have 3 characters voiced by Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga and Anatoly Karpov. Sure, game is bad in any other aspect but game has epic VA, right? "There was not enough resources to do story branching, budget was too low, do you know how much VA costs?".

There is a level of importance in every aspect of the game. Barely voiced porn game with good story and sex scenes is better than fully voiced porn game with sex scenes without context. Monster Girl Quest is a fucking masterpiece and only few girls were voiced. Fruit of Grisaia was barely voiced but story made this game worth every dollar. Subverse has yet to show it's best side, but if it will be just VA - that's bad.

Except the backers paid for full VA's, so its expected to be there. And its not 'at the cost of sex scenes'. You've seen like 8-10 scenes from 3 ladies. You really can't say its not good enough when its barely the beginning.

And it just keeps repeating that people want it in the story, they want it in the story....You don't know how much is in the story, we've just seen one scene when they join the crew. For all we know there's 10 more premium scenes for each girl between here and the devotion quest capoff. But we don't know. And all the speculation in the world isn't doing anything but just causing endless debate.

Yeah, but we didn't say we expect the best porn game there ever was. Studio FOW themselves said it's first premium porn experience, shortly before launch. And this EA certainly doesn't show it. It would be different if they approached it like "listen guys, our game will be awesome in the end but for now EA will just cover the basics to check if everything is working properly on various rigs, please do not treat it like it's the level final product will have". No, "world's first premium experience, we are launching soon, yay!"...

BS, it was for making better launch sales. If they would be honest many people would decide it's better to wait. That's why i cringed when you said DC was like "someone told me we should add microtransactions, I left the meeting then, everything for you guys!". Yeah...

I know that it's a very rough estimation but let's see :

- Around 2 millions dollars from Kickstarter

- An unknow amount from steam (Early Access).

We don't know how much from Steam, but at least we can try to estimate it. There is a way to estimate those sales using the number of review :
20.png

I think I can use this data of 41 sales per review, since as I said before, it's still a rough estimation.
Game has currently 6094 review.
Price of the game is set at 30 $. I don't know if price is the same for each country (I think no) but still, most buyers comes from Europe / USA.

So we can estimate the number of sales at nearly 250 000.
Which give us an income of nearly 7 500 000 $
minus the 30% steam commission : 5 250 000 $

So with Kickstarter + steam sales we have something like : 7 250 000 $

Well, fair enought, it's not 10 millions (I said this because I used anoter "sales per review" ratio, which seems to be outdated, now it's more accurate.)

A branching story is just too beyond their scope with the time and budget they have. Again first game ever for these guys. Even Bioware had experience with games like Baldur's Gate and Knights of the Old Republic before they came out with Mass Effect. You're simply just asking for too much there.
Well, you see how things can end up when over stretching at to little time. Obsidian got tasked with make the sequel to KOTOR, and was just given 13-16 months to complete the game, and still got cut short on time to release due to the suits at top. I guess its a repeating story with Obsidian, seeing they pushed Fallout New Vegas out in 18 months time, albeit the engine and majority of graphic assets where already there from past games. Fast forward some years and they create their own IP with "The Outer Worlds".. and the difference between be under the heel of someone else and to be your own master, quite noticeable.

Subverse already got story content with multiple wafius. If they had to do several branching paths as well with so many characters, it would just become to big. Branching paths favor games with few characters. If you look at like Quantic Dreams "Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, and Detroit; Become Human" you have games where branching paths, twist and turns, make for a good experience.

You extracted the cost of development yet, or done any actual thought about those numbers? Just curious....

Might be worth checking out....

There is regional pricing, I've seen some folks say they've gotten it for the equivalent of 5 USD, so the total number is gonna vary a lot.

Even so, I sincerely doubt they're gonna redo the entire system/script with the income. It will likely be going to hiring more people to improve upon the sex animations, as they've stated in the Recruitment section of the latest Kickstarter update.

I recall a friend who laughed at people who spent all day on twitter while ironically spending his entire days staring at the bright light on his phone playing games and posting on reddit.
If there had been a world wide collapse in regard of social media platforms. I think a lot of people would gone bonkers. No facebook, no twitter, no instagram, no nothing... yeah that would go down very well...

Probably. I just always found it funny whenever I met people who scoffed at others for spending all thier time on one social media platform while not self realizing they too spend all thier time on another.

That Subverse is finished or not is debatable but they where stating

3) Subverse is a story-driven game meant to be experienced as a whole, not in the stop/start fashion that is forced by Early Access. Having to wait potentially up to a month for the next chapter to be released will really hurt the momentum of the overall game.

4) Internally, we've seen the difference between a fully completed section of the game and an Early Access one, and it's night and day in terms of quality. We feel it would be a disservice to you guys and the project to release it before the quality you deserve can be achieved throughout the game.
Bit confusing why they didn't keept it still in your backers Space but decided for a public release now

So overall i wouldn't call this finished and you playing it ;)

The issue here is like any other Kickstarted game or hyped up game. Developers promise one thing not understanding what that may entail for development. Voice acting is great, though not necessary for a porn game. Because the need for a voice actor, that hinders development. You know what would've been better, having that as a hidden goal and making it a surprise instead of integral part of the deal.

That scenario would've meant some scenes could've had quality voice acting that may've been pleasant surprise instead of expected. Then Studio F.O.W as well, could've added as many scenes as they wanted to main story to contextualize the porn without voice acting or the use of Pandora system to insert those scenes. And enthusiasts here would want that extra context for the scene instead of smut with slightly better moans than the generic ones. Though that time shipped has sailed and hindsight is always 20/20. That being said I really hope that this game maybe able to overcome its shortcomings.

You see with most games that launch on kickstarter they have a early access phase. Primary probably the need for a cash injection. Game development isn't free, and even you raise funds on kickstarter it doesn't always make you go the full distance.

I read their dev team was 12 people. And they are looking to hire more people. Proper dev talent with the skills they looking for doesn't work for minimum wages...

Early access is also a great way to get feedback on your progress. It's far easier to do changes under way than have to change things when everything completed.

People that buy into early access games should do so with eyes wide open. You wouldn't expect a game that get released through this site in a 0.1 version to be complete. So why of Subverse?
