Steam is absolutely schizo in enforcing their own rules. One rape game gets a pass, while another doesn't. Same with games in a school setting (because underage). It all depends on the mod who works on the day of the approval.
Japanese devs also make a lot of trash slop that has like an hour of content at most and ask you to pony up about the same price as Early Access Subverse. So I don't really know what's worse.
Vanilla is another personal definition that goes all over. For some its just human/human, for others its just consensual sex.

Now that this game is done for the most part, fingers crossed they go back to making shorts / movies and such. To me personally, this was just one giant waste of time...can't complain too much about the money that went into this, since i stopped supporting Studio Fow financially ages ago.
But to think what else they could have put out, in the time they spent creating a subpar game with equally subpar writing and smut implementation...it is a travesty imho.
Fingers crossed, they move back to their "roots". And maybe one day we will see the next part in the "batman series" featuring catwoman (as well as that samus movie i faintly remember StudioFow talking about) getting released

I think the entire game venture sprung up because their content got them banned from patreon and the like, but they wanted to continue to produce porn. They kinda made their future intentions already known
Their intentions are one thing, the reality of things another. I don’t see what's the issue with being overly cautious instead of hyping myself up for a Shadowheart or Tifa rape fuckfest when there's a chance the likes of SquareEnix might come knocking on the door because their studio just isn't a bunch of randos on the internet anymore but a registered company.
Because they can't threaten to have their Patreon go down, that's already gone. Also not every company even bothers to go after smut makers. If that were the case we wouldn't be seeing all the smut that's come from Remake and Rebirth. PMMSFM, BulgingSenpai, Dezmall have all done animations with FF characters.
That is just a video throwing together a bunch of known characters though. If they abandon those foolish videogame ambitions and go back to what made them a "household name" in the first place, i am all for it.
It still has to rest within their guidelines for it to be distributed on the platform. If they wanted to add things that lie outside of that they can host the material on their own site or something like that, but it can't be hosted by Valve.
Bears repeating, we were gonna get a game like this in the timeline where FOW was not removed from Patreon. A game was the 25k milestone. They have actually fulfilled that milestone to their patrons despite everything.
