Yeah quick meta is:
1: Use the mage girl.
2: If you really want to use melee, use the flame girl. Use her aoe (Hold down click) and immediately swap her weapon afterward or the item will continue burning/deteriorating. After that swap back to it and use her aoe again. That's better damage and eats up less durability on weapons than continuing to attack while the weapon is on fire as long as there are a few enemies around.
3: Melee characters actually do okay damage without weapons, they can go barehanded and not lose too much damage, so prioritize keeping your mage geared up first.
4: Don't pick up/use curses. Most of them will completely fuck a run (There's one that completely turns off magic and you're pretty much fucked at that point since the mage is like 75% of your damage.). The curses are far worse than the boosts.
5: There are some boosts that are almost must haves if you want a reliable game clear. Don't mind the loss of score. The ones that repair clothes and weapons on floor change are huge.
6: Don't use the fire weapon boost, it causes weapons to deteriorate constantly in combat. The damage boost is not worth it at all. You can break weapons in a single room with it.
The curses/blesses and their score modifiers are one of the most poorly balanced parts of this game, you need to use some blesses to win, and most curses are completely crippling and not worth the score increase. So try to ignore the score modifier if you actually want to clear the game. Even when you're farming score, you won't want to use curses. You'd just no bonuses instead.
