I forgot that the summer ends in north america, unlike in rest of the world, at the end of September. So if they release upd before end of september it will be still technically considered summer

That doesn't change the fact that keeping to 1st person only is them limiting themselves in terms of art especially when we will get to more sex scenes, the same carefully placed camera angles will get old really fast, while the only positives of keeping the VN like that are 'some people like it that way'.
Keep in mind that the devs themselves brought this topic up, it wasn't people complaining, or anything :WeSmart:

Sidenote,do you remember that there was a poll for Sage's default hair color between the one in the game and the one we see in the flashback with Chad? :Kappa:
I don't care either way about the POV debate other than I want the devs to stay true to their creative vision. And about the devs themselves bringing the topic up...that was my entire point: it is a bad idea to ask fans to determine the direction of your game. It may start small, but it is a slippery slope indeed. First it was production times (and now here we sit at 10 months as a result), then it is POV camera angles. Where does it lead?

Be careful what you wish for. I think we can all envision a topic we don't want the clodhoppers voting on (a hated kink perhaps?). One of a developer's worst possible decisions is allowing fans to take over the controls, even briefly. I have seen many a game left in ruins by such things.

All I say now is, don't wreck a good thing. When the Summer Heat devs make their own decisions they have been spot on. When they let the fapping horde lead the charge, then not so much.

I agree with you that games are their best when developers follow their own judgement, and that the judgement of Northpx in the design of Summer Heat so far has been great. To be fair though, I don't take this to be "Dear patrons, how do you feel about POV? We will adjust the game to meet the preferences you vote on" so much as just the developers saying that in chapter 5 they have been composing frames differently and asking for feedback about it. They might take that feedback into account and they also might not. It feels natural (and actually inevitable) that in the process of developing a game you'd want feedback every now and again and there's nothing (at least in my reading) to suggest that the developers are going to mindlessly follow the whims of the people who comment.

True, but it is often a red flag for the future. One that I have seen far too often to feel comfortable with when I see it begin to rear its ugly head with a game that I really like.

If a dev creates storyline X and then looks in on Patreon, discord, and even F95 and the resounding sentiment is that storyline X is terrible and universally despised then dev would be a fool not to take note of it and at least consider a change. They are after all trying to make something pleasing to customers. But that is different from actively soliciting opinions on creative or production decisions. That immediately says to me, this dev has hit a block. Maybe this truly just is a minor checking in with fans as you say (although a face reveal seems rather important), but after the release times debacle (that was at least partially based on fan input), I worry that a pattern is emerging.

By US reckoning:
1. Meteorological summer ended on August 31.
2. Astronomical summer will end with the equinox on September 23.
3. The devs are based in Finland, so what we do here in the US is irrelevant. :p

Just pick the angles that are hotter Northpx .
The point of view should be to maximize the enjoyment of the scenes with the girls.
This is the way.

We steered away from the 1st person POV starting in CH3/CH4. The limitations were very noticable early on and we didn't want to get stuck with it as the game progresses. And when it comes to lewd scenes, the angles will be quite diverse. (y)

Basically, are you going to release an annual chapter?

Chapter 5 with a lot of luck will be ready when, December?
An unfortunate consequence of making a bigger release with a set ending that we've been working towards.
It'll be done way before December or we fucked up. :HideThePain:

No worries. We previously asked for thoughts regarding the longer development time and this time we were curious about the players' perspectives on POV. These haven't been polls to change the game, just things we'd like to know more about.

And thanks to the many replies here and on Patreon, we got some good insight. (y)

I don't mind POV changes, more 3rd person shots are nice though. At this point I'd just take the next update as is instead of have to wait even longer for them to rework new POV shots in. You can leave that for ch6 or whatever.

Honestly If I don't like how the mc looks in these games I stop playing them
I self insert in these games heavily
And two things that push me away from a game is how the mc acts to the girls and how he looks

Not saying that's going to happen here those are just my thoughts
Heck, I prefer when AAA games are first person too

Honestly I prefer the "BaDIK" style. Dialogue switches between POV and observer-mode, other scenes too.

BUT: He is called "Fuckface" for a reason. If the MC looks like an idiot or has a beard like a viking/Magnum, people are mostly out (I would drop the game too).
So giving the MC a "face" comes with a risk.

A safe bet is when the protagonist's face is neutral enough and pretty enough. And its better to show it only when it is necessary, sex scene for example. Anyway player's attention will clearly not be focused on the mc's face

I had no idea that people care this much about the way MCs looks.. I mean sure sometimes I think that they look a bit silly or whatever but I can mostly ignore it and just enjoy the story.

Yeah that's true, probably a reason we see a lot of "bland" protags (or at least similiar looking) is that the devs don't want to go over the top with MC looks  And there is probably a lack of assets too.

And don't forget the most important thing. Save your development progress from the game. The script, the renders, some ideas for the next chapter, everything that has to do with summer heat. Save it multiple times on different computers, USB sticks and hard drives, nobody wants to start all over again after months of hard work if the case happens that the own computer is no longer working properly.

This has happened to all of us sometimes in the past, so always save everything several times on different systems, this prevents the worst case scenario.

Slight glimpse of MC without facial hair but maybe that will change. Both the bestfriend and Miller are decent looking, how bad could MC be?

Lol, I thought for a second that she is on Miller. Probably because of the same hairstyles and the fact that I was always paying all attention to the Sophie at that point
