That's correct, version 0.6 has 1800 renders, and now they have 2635 (and in theory they have many more because they said they weren't going to count the renders where the character moves a little during a conversation).

And dont get fooled by total renders in any update, if it says 3000 you consider 1000 because 2/3 of them is just different angle or something like that, not moving story forward!

I kind of always thought renders were a carnival trick. Something like SLim_Games and a plethora of other devs not very keen on keeping promises would do to stall. I've seen people complain about this being a "render simulator" but I wouldn't take it that far, though you could say it rides that edge.
If the quality of the last update was up to par instead of you know, counting renders, then sure, I'd even take an update every 2 years. But again, like you said, some people are just impatient.
But even being passionate about something can blind us to some obvious things.

I mean... you can do a lot with 1000 renders but touted as 3000 if your goal is a lore/exposition dump. Lots of yappin' with 1 render open mouth 1 render closed. But this doesn't seem like a game that needs something like that. It's all about that summer camp booty.

Just based on reported renders, this one is (at last update) around 2600, making it the second biggest. v0.5 had around 3600 renders, and v0.6 (the next biggest) had around 1800.
I wouldn't be surprised if the developers aim was to make a bigger update than 0.5 after the more negative reception that 0.6 got.
It also looks like they've said that they'll alternate bigger and smaller updates in a recent dev log? Could be interesting to see how that turns out.
They did literally say themselves in the last update it will be bigger than 0.5.
