First some bug fixing and some more polishing. Then I'm taking a vacation mid October for two weeks after having worked non-stop for almost two years now. Development for season two will begin as soon as I'm back.
Even if I can't wait for season 2, you should take more than 2 weeks of vacation.
2 weeks is the bare minimum to really free your mind of work.
And I think it's even more important for creative work like development games.

Definitely agree here with the frog. Take three or four weeks to recharge properly, mush as I'd like to see what you have in store for the gang, taking a real break once in a while is really important, and you may come back with fresh eyes.

Agree that more vacation is ok, but if You don't want to be away from work for so long, maybe take a scheduled real vacation once a year at least.

Thanks guys! As much as I'd like to take your advice, I just can't afford to stay away for too long. I'm dependent on the income only updates can generate. I'm barely making ends meet as is. I still have no marketplace for SITC, my income on itch.io basically broke away ever since the whole censorship bullshit started. Patreon/SubscribeStar are my only means of income right now and it's hardly enough to cover all expenses. I know it sounds bitter but that's the harsh truth. I'm not willing to give up on my dream just yet though. There's still a chance with GOG to make the project financially viable.

Is Steam done forever now or can you make another attempt in a few month?

Sorry if it is to personal, but does itch blocks your payments? I ask because when you make a google search 'summer in the city itch io' you can still buy the game for the 5$ min price or more, but have only paypal as a payment option. If you get the money and it is not blocked it is maybe an option for those people that are not able or do not want to commit to a monthly subscription.

The problem is that impulse purchases make the majority of sales. And due to the delisting, these kind of purchases stopped almost entirely. I am currently working on a free demo version so my game appears on their public lists again at least. I won't make as much as before the crackdown on adult games, but it could at least alleviate the losses a bit. We'll see how it goes. Getting the word out on social media is pretty hard nowadays in the vast ocean of creators, especially when you have limited visibility due to NSFW content, so I can't rely on that method alone unfortunately.

And regarding the payouts: Not exactly blocking, but itch does seem to have issues with their payouts lately. I'm still waiting for mine. It's in review for 20 days now, which is way too long.

Some people reported delays of 50 days and more in their forums. Some people even claim that itch is a sinking ship. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but considering that adult games usually make an enormous amount of their revenue, it's easy to come to such a conclusion.

The only kind of game I buy on Itch is adult games and I can guess that I'm not alone in this situation. It makes it perilous to forsake that source of revenue long-term for Itch. East Asian competitor, where there is real pushback against the CC companies might want to capitalise on the devs desperately trying to re-establish revenues streams. So Itch has all the reasons in the world to try and resume smooth operations with adult content or they will have their market robed from under their feet.

For me as a German I have the problem that for being able to sell a game for a mature audience a shop has to offer age control and games need to have a age classification. If the dev does no classification for the game it is by default not being able to be sold. Itch kind of ignores the thing, but I guess it's to small for our government to care. It's different with GOG and steam. I don't use GOG, but not long ago steam created it's own age classification. It's a free form to fill and after that a game has a classification. Even if the result is 'only for mature audience' you then can buy the game if you are an adult. If the dev does not care and does not fill the form or have another official age classification (for example PEGI) you can't buy the game at all and it doesn't matter if it's a children puzzle of a sesame street character or a hardcore vore game.
An additional problem is that most Europeans doesn't have a Credit Card by default. We have local debit systems like Girocard in Germany, Dankort in Denmark, Carte Bancaire in France etc. and all those local cards are accepted in other EU countries and online many EU shops support bank transfer. That is why most only have a Creditcard like Visa that often leave the EU or have to pay in shops that do not support the local systems. Nobody gets a credit card just to buy a game - an alternative option would be something like paysafecard, but there are only a few shops that support that system. For those who don't know it - paysafecard is a prepaid card system.

Moin! Another German here. Gog does not regionblock nsfw as Steam does. So I can see VNs like it used to be on Steam. Gog also does not forbid using VPNs like Steam does. With a VPN the catalogue is even bigger.

One dev explained to me that even filling out that Form would not change anything on Steam for him. I did not really understand why because I also thought the system would Work as you described.

So we have to hope now that all the good AVNs will be accepted on gog. I especially created an account there for Summer.
