He lost the SG patron account, because they blacklisted him when he lost WiaB and only just worked out he had two accounts.

The next update of SG is S2 Ch1-3 and is around 2/3 of the size of season 1. Originally S2 Ch1-4 was going to be put on early access and then updated with each new chapter. Now, he is putting it out as S2 Ch1-2 and updating it with new chapters as DLC. THe DLC will need to be reviewed, but each of those will be easier (smaller updates).

So nothing's really changed outher than we get Ch1-3 instead of waiting even longer for Ch1-4. And instead of being ealy access, there will be DLC. Most games will probably have to switch to this method. I mean, games here get updated with each update, it'll be nice that games on Steam will be too. People will be more engaged than waiting 18-24 months per update.

As to whether Ocean will do this or let the scope creep win is another matter.

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly, but are you saying that episodes 1 through 3 will be released directly? Weeks ago, I know there was talk that the supposed chapter 1 would have as many renders as 2 chapters or more from the previous season, so has it finally been decided to divide it into different chapters and release several at once and then DLC?

I also don't quite understand the Patreon thing. You say they blacklisted it with WIAB, but that means WIAB lost out too for some reason. What happened?

Steam no longer allow 'Early Access' for adult games. So it either has to be one full release/season/completed VN....or a release...and then 'DLC' instead. Each DLC release will be subject to the same rules/terms/checks as the first release. (previously, one could 'add to the game' without checks....and that was taken advantage of).

You mean games can no longer be purchased by season? Sorry, but I don't understand how not allowing early access affects this, since as far as I know they used to sell the seasons separately. Are you saying they can no longer sell each season separately?

If that's the case, how does it affect us players who play games that are also sold on Steam? Do devs now have to release complete seasons? Or can they continue to release chapters for Patreon/SS subscribers and wait until the game is finished to release it on Steam? I guess the latter will be up to each dev...

Sorry for all the questions, but I've never paid attention to Steam's policies for these games and I don't fully understand the changes or how they affect us.

If his numbers were truly impressive, Steam would be indispensable. Since his performance there is only average, he’s actually earning more on SS. Deep down, he’s still hoping for a breakout moment on Steam.

Early access is for incomplete games. Not just AVN's.

For adult games...Steam no longer allow you to release an 'incomplete' game and keep 'adding to it' It's a full release...or an initial release and then 'DLC' which will be paid for seperately. DLC, will be subject to the same harsh criteria as the initial release (this never used to happen. Before, you could 'add' to the AVN without Steam checking the content).

Ocean calls the chapters instead of episodes, and yes the big ~8000 still render update will be released as three chapters together. DLC chapters will be added into the game, just like DLC for most games, or update only updates here.

WiaB's patreon got nuked after Ch3 was released. That's why it's only been on SS pretty much since Ch3 got released. Ocean apparently was never able to find out why, so I can't explain there. But SG's page getting nuked was because WiaB's was, according to the email they sent him.

So now both games are on SS, and that's why OCean's keen to get SG S2 Ch1-3 out for sale. It does mean that he can't as easily tinker once he releases things, so there's that as an upside no one's mentioned.

Just to clarify this (for folk such as murphy)...games are not banned on Patreon, the creator themselves are. Which is why SG (albeit after after far too long) also got nuked.

What I didn't understand was why that meant a change in the release policy for season 2, but now I get it.

What happened is that Ocean released Season 1 on Steam when it was completed (as many other developers have done with their games), and I didn't understand why that should affect us in any way with the second season. The problem, I imagine, is that now they had no intention of waiting to complete the second season to release it on Steam, but rather they wanted to do an early access release from the first chapter and update it as more chapters came out. This way, they had immediate income from this platform and buyers only had to wait for updates with the season they purchased.

Smart on the part of the developers, but it was risky if the game was then abandoned. I understand Steam's change in policy.

I imagine this has pushed Ocean to turn that really long first chapter into three chapters so they can call it season 2 and release it on Steam, and then later release a DLC, which will be chapter 4.

Because Ocean didn't create the Summer's Gone Patreon page, Regium did. Ocean just managed it after Regium jumped the ship.
So technically, he didn't break any Patreon rules with this, either. He didn't create an alias account, he just managed an account of another person.
