Summer's Gone - Season 2 - Chapter 1 - Dev Log #37
Hello,

So, in the past 10 days the PC averaged about 22-25 renders a day. Even though I create more, it’s the usual story of loading 20+ characters.

Sadly, my 4090 on the other PC can’t handle some of the scenes and just stops all together.

One day went bye-bye due to a region wide power outage during the night and well…

…this puts us at around 6980 renders… Let’s just say 7000 still renders.

Muuusic and cinematics
I recently acquired a license for another cinematic that will be in this Chapter. Great song, great cinematic.

I’m going to buy two more songs and then I will stop buying music licenses for about a year or two.

Due to what’s happening in the NSFW world, I must make sure that no matter what happens, I find a way to keep paying my leasing rates for the Workstation + GPUs, as well as the electricity bill. (All together about 2000€/month).

The good thing is that I already have about 15 cinematics for Season 2. (The songs are all licensed and paid for.)

Upgrade
After 5 years I retired my 49” monitor and got myself a new Samsung 49” OLED. I tried to get as close to my old color settings as possible, but it can’t look the same.

Due to the strong blacks of the OLED display, the renders naturally looked more contrasty.

Means, the renders for you might look a little brighter now in comparison to my old ones. Maybe? Maybe they'll look the same.

Preppy
Preparation of the environments and characters is almost done.

One good thing that comes from this update is that I will have done so many environments and places that ALL future updates will benefit from it.

The number of new environments must rival the entire Season 1.

The good thing is all of them will be used again and again throughout the seasons.

Languages for Season 1
I finished a new language selection screen and SG Season 1 will get a lot of new languages soon.

- Spanish

- German (Official Bella nickname: Bellchen)

- Russian

- Polish

- Italian

- Turkish

- Portuguese

- Simplified Chinese

More will be added overtime.

Whats the benefit of Ocean leasing his GPUs and workstation? At 2000euros(about 2300usd) a month, wouldn't it be cheaper by far to just buy and own them? Even an expensive rig will cost the equivalent of 3 months of leasing at most.

I'm probably missing something, but that just seems like an unnecessary drain on his wallet.

From saying there will be 55 renders/day to 35, though Ocean had some complications this weeks, so we'll give him that. 1400 renders left/55 = 25 days of only rendering. No more info about development. 35 devlogs, 7 to go. Also, is it official that devlogs are on Sundays? I know Ocean said " Gone are the days of the Wednesday dev logs. Welcome the age of Sunday Logs. " on devlog 35, but I thought it was ironic and only said it bcs it was a sunday and not a wednesday

At least Try to read the entire first paragraph of the Dev Log... or even the first two sentences ... and remember it long enough to make some sense when you complain about Ocean's progress.

He literally says why the render count/day drops in sentence two - something he has commented on before in prior dev logs.

So - when he is working on scenes with Many people, render count/day drops.

When he is working on scenes with fewer people, render count/day increases.

Complexity impacts render/day count - Who Knew??

What a surprise it will be when Ocean wraps up a complex scene and shifts work to one with a smaller part of the cast of SG and render count/day 'magically' increases...

You can buy a similar workstation (2x NVIDIA RTX 6000 48 GB GDDR6, 256 GB ECC, Threadripper PRO 9985WX, 8 TB WD, etc.) for around €31,000–34,000.
The price might be higher if he bought more professional-grade hard drives and motherboard.
A loan over two years would cost around €1,500 per month.
I hope his leasing agreement is the kind where ownership is transferred automatically after the full amount is paid - otherwise, it's a rip-off.
Imagine paying a twentieth of a car’s price every month just for leasing.
