Summer's Gone - Season 2 - Chapter 1 - Dev Log #38

Hello,

So…

I wasn’t in front of my PC for most of the weekend and suddenly remembered that I had moved Dev Logs to Sunday.

Sorry.

I created about 275 stills and 3 animations in the past 10 days.

Which puts us at 7275 stills.

I have no idea how many animations I’ve done yet… I’d say about 15 to 20.

And those are all animations with 60 to 300 frames, and more to come… But those will be tackled after all stills are done.

Obviously, because the game is now in 4K, all animations are rendered in 4k too.

Here’s a list of what I still have to do:

- Another ~750 stills

- About 15 to 20 animations (Non-cinematic)

- Cinematic 1 - ~30seconds

- Cinematic 2 - ~1min

- Cinematic 3 - ~1min (Teaser)

- Implement the new main menu and all its functionality

- Implement the new gallery.

- Implement the new Chat system for the phone (It’s coded but not tested in-game yet.)

- Implement Aurora (Optional for CH1)

- Create 5 standalone preset starts for Season 2

- Postwork for about 3000 renders

- Implement the ambiance and SFX

- Test it all, including the save porting from Season 1 to Season 2.

I’ll have to come up with a system to test future Chapters more efficiently, especially if it involves porting saves from other Seasons over.

The Steam page for Season 2 will go up in the next few days, it’s been in review for about a week.

As the next update will be as big as four normal chapters, I should also adjust the counting for it.

The next update includes Chapter 1 to 3, with 7 to 8 more updates to come for Season 2.

The game will be released on Steam/GOG with Chapter 4, the update after the upcoming one.

Provided that’s still possible after the recent, simultaneous, worldwide attempts to morally guide us, censor, and fuck all our privacy.

SG Season 1 was part of a free bundle in collaboration with GOG.com (FreedomToBuyGames) to stand against censorship and the right to buy and sell games as long as they’re legal. (Watch them make everything that could be seen as immoral illegal. Hello 1800’s and great work Project 2025.)

GOG now gave us the official numbers and 1,357,973 had claimed the bundle. A very solid number, and maybe a few will even try the game.

I’m not going to lie, not knowing if I will be able to pay my workstation lease and electricity bill next year is on my mind a lot, especially now that they are thinking about a new electricity levy after telling us it would finally be reduced.

I do have some contingency plans if the worst comes to worst. I assume SG Season 1 is safe as it’s not classified as an adult game, but future Seasons might be severely affected.

Germany, as usual, likes to go one step further and thinks about banning payments to adult platforms, even for adults.

They are speaking about certain websites there, but we all know how this goes. It’s never just that.

I was thinking about getting a cheap third PC to help with animations, as I still have a 3090 lying around.

But because I invested easily 90% of what I earned over the last few years back into the games, I must now build reserves for the worst case so that I can at least pay the workstation leasing as well as the electricity bill for the next 2 ½ years and then the workstation is mine.No matter what happens tho, I will never stop developing these games.

That might be the case for some players, but for me the incest arc was never a must, I was neutral about it. In or out did not matter to me. But what matters is that Ocean destroyed a fitting backstory because he wants to keep some characters like Helen, Leia, Kati as LIs. But to keep them he rewrote the backstory into a stupid, disjointed rubbish even penny dreadful authors would deny to publish.

It's been a month, you could have calmed down by now, though the whole backstory connecting both games has become rather messy. But knowing we're going to be a full-on Porn mogul, we already know that Jason Momoa wasn't the main inspiration for our main character. William Grimaldi is just a Chad modernized version of this guy.



And this, my dears, is a Porn fantasy that can overcome many imperfections.

I don´t calm down about it because I can see what Ocean throws away for self-censored! He had the for AVNs rarely found great artwork and fitting backstory/characters going for it. The starting backstory had the potential of a nicely Entwicklungsgeschichte (development story) of the MC and several other characters over the run of the game.
As mentioned before he could have simply taken the female Zane family members of the LI list due to the incest witch hunt of Patreon and Co. It isn´t that we lacked nice LIs to begin with. It would still be Miru, Zoey, Monika, Dana, Daphne to name just the important ones.
But no, since Helen, Leia, Kati had to remain LIs in Ocean´s mind, he rewrote the story into a stupid, incoherent mess which strains suspension of disbelief beyond the breaking point.
Mark my words, since the familial situation of Nami, Zara, Olivia, Ayua is "bad to the bone" for bigot Patreon, Ocean will rewrite it into oblivion too. Why do we all joke so much about the status of Zara and Nika once Nick and Nojiko tie the knot? and he already started a rewrite concerning Nami in earlier chapters. Do not lie to yourself, most dialog makes only sense if Nami and Nika are siblings. The questions about Nami´s hair colour and the little thing how a single, fresh doctor with harsh working hours could adopt two(!) kids form different families. Idiotic already, he should have kept it like it was intended from the start. Nojiko adopted the siblings as next of kin/friend according to the wishes of their parents. He would only loose Nami (and probably Ayua) as an LI.

Until the last update of WIAB, it was a crime story about a lost son finally returning home with his fiance, trying to solve some mysteries and right some things he did wrong. The story so far, the character interactions and relations fitted really well.
Now following the new update, WIAB´s story is ruined. Since Ocean wanted to keep several characters LIs no matter what, but also wanted to not run into an incest witch hunt again, he changed everything and not for the better. The plot and logic holes now present make Eurasia look small with a dressing of ultra-stupid "MAFIA did it all" on top of it. It is rare I am so disappointed by a game which had such potential. I am as angry as Tom in the outro part of that classic show (around 1:10) and with Udo Jürgens´sarcastic and legendary song "Vielen Dank für die Blumen" playing (only the German version with this far better fitting song, listen the full version of the song in another video), you´d like to do what Tom does.
As for SG, Nami/Cheeto was MC´s sister from the start, but hidden. I think you do not need to try twice to know that Ocean will certainly ruin it here too, since he cannot keep Nami as sister.

Wait a sec, in my game, Cheeto was introduced as ROOMATE bro, not a sister. there're not a single hint that tell cheeto is a sister, they just happen to be taking cared by Noji.

And again, its true, that WIAB link is quite clear regarding relations, but since i played WIAB first and then SG because i found that its shared same world but different timeline, after playing SG, it makes me confused with the plot HAHAHAHA

On at least two occasions, they ask Nika why Nami has red hair while Nika has black hair, a strange question to ask a "friend."
A relationship between Nami and Nika would be "forbidden."
Finally, when they ask if they're together, Nami's reaction makes more sense if someone is confusing a brother with a boyfriend than a roommate with a boyfriend.

That is the hidden part from rewriting already done, in the first two versions of SG it was very clear that Nami and Nika are siblings and even in the early rewrites it peaks through. e.g. The constant questions about Nami´s red hair, which would be completely superfluous if they were just roomies. Their reactions to some questions and assumptions by others make no sense for roommates, only for real siblings.

Developers and DAZ3D artists have been using 4K while rendering in iRay for years, because using 4K resolution for rendering just gives considerably better looking results. Until recently most 4K rendering game devs downsized all their 4K renders to FHD for the games to keep the download size down. Because these downsized 4K renders are still looking better than those originally rendered in FHD.
Ocean is one of these developers. All the renders in the re-works and finally the whole season 1 were rendered in 4K and downsized to FHD, except maybe cinematics, I think.

A few devs have already stopped downsizing their 4K originals, Ocean also decided to release S2 in original 4K and is now also rendering all cinematics in 4K.

Yes, the size of the next release is going to be insane. Those with poor internet connections and tightly stuffed hard drives are likely going to wait for our game compressors to downsize and re-compress renders and videos to make it manageable.

I don't want to offend you, but I seriously doubt your words. Many people compress 4k images and make FHD out of them to improve the quality of renders. This primarily helps to get rid of noise that is clearly visible on a dark background. But the problem is that Ocean stopped working with light settings and all his renders became very dark. Therefore, there was a lot of noise in his renders and the quality dropped significantly. This is clearly visible if you compare old and new chapters in season 1. This is also visible in his renders from the logs.

But is that all Oceanlab's AVN's really is just nice renders and nice music ? what about the Storys of WiaB and Summer's Gone both games storys have gone through so much change over the last 6 years what they once was which made some of us fans the rest don't know what the old games was like all they see is the new versions. Yeah the renders are great to look at but if the story behind the great renders is fucked up and doesn't make sense then the nice renders means nothing if you can't tell a story as a Dev and your story is a far cry from what it once was and the big question is how much more changes will come in the future.
