Dev just stalled and made an "update" to avoid the "Game Abandoned" tag to continue scamming the Patrons. It's the same reasoning as people who buy e-girls' bathwater...
Wow. What a shame. This was like one of my top 10 games on this site. Whenever I expect a game to be amazing, something happens to it. Every fucking time. Big brother, dual family, milfy city, the tyrant, and now this.
At this rate, I should just make a game myself.

I wonder if that "Abandoned" tag is what kicked DC in the ass enough to release something, even if it was just a little bit. Which if he'd been doing that at all the past two years then there would have been much less complaining.
Not at all in his Patreon page he has 86K followers in wich the 29K are paid members each month he post something on his Patreon and he even have a discord that's active his followers on his page and discord know that the game isn't abandoned and he has his own community so I don't think that he would care about a forum that have his game abandoned I think that his supporters presured him to release the update because two years without an update I think it's a long time

I was joking to myself that a nothingburger update is probably around the corner and here we are lmao.

What you see as fair, I see as review bombing. If you don't like the game, make an effort to review it according to the standards of the forum.

So is Discord happy with this update and roadmap or not? I still don't quite get it. Why did DC turn off comments on Patreon? Are the comments back to normal now?

He is a hard worker.

I think Saria's shitstorm was bigger for less.
I honestly don't know why some people don't like this tech update. Recent reviews seem to be positive.

And the blindfold defenders rush out sprinting and waving their hands yet again... well, people have faithfully followed and allowed far far worse throughout history, so why am I shocked.

Recent reviews are positive probably because anyone with anything negative to say said it, and the mods here don't let you talk about stuff like this in reviews.

And even though I think the dev is a moraless abuser of patreon that knows exactly what he is doing and why it is wrong, it is nonetheless still true that the game is fairly great. That is in fact mostly why the situation is so sad. But you can't talk about any surrounding context about a game in a review here without having screeching mods descend like chaos space marines, so of course the reviews will be positive, especially if you're new to the game (which most of those recent reviewers seem to be).

Eventually they will end up like us, get to the end of the content and steadily watch these "updates every two months" degrade into minor grammar fixes and vague "touch ups" to preexisting art that people can't tell the difference on, but won't be able to comment about it in reviews either.

That being said, this has gotten far beyond beating a dead horse. The horse has long become dust. The dev won no matter what, he's probably a multi millionaire by now judging by the game's estimated yearly earnings (if he doesn't pay out helpers/staff) by basically only putting in a good initial effort.

That's something a lot of people would have been tempted by so eh.

Thanks for the reply.
As a IT girl that coded a bit in Powershell and very little in Python, I can still think of a few reason someone would remake their whole code.

In a project that big, you have a looooot of dependancy (things that call for other things) or "tag" (name depending on the langugage) to modify a lot of entries at the same time with just a modification of that tag definition.
As a simple example for those no familiar with it (not you it seems since you said you coded a bit) : whats allow the dev and the modders to quickly change how a "mom" gets turn into a "landlady" is because everytime they are called in a dialog, it's not "mom" or "landlady" but something like "$mom" or "$momname" if we are talking about the name you choose when prompted at the beginning. You are changing the "tag" definition by your own input.

That being said, this idea can go waaayy deeper than that and when you build a code with "beginner" knowledge, it's bond to happen that years later, you have way more skills to do thing cleaner, with less bugs, clutter. A lot of time, the way you did things with partial knowledge of what you were doing can cause an impossibility to do something new, thousands of lines down in your code, and you have to rethink a whole function.

I suppose the devs hit that point with new content they wanted to add and couldn't with the way they built the game until then.
They could also just want to do a better experience overhaul with their new knowledge.
Or, they were close to finishing their project or out of new ideas to add and had to keep the money coming to live...

They could have also used the 70k per month average income to pay someone 2-10k per month to code it independently, and focused on improving old scenes and making new ones.
Not against you here, but there is 0 justification for 2 years to make this... Which he made in a year before...

You do the math I guess, and who knows if this passive income is his only revenue stream or way to monetize this game lol.

I care a lot less about all if this now that I'm no longer paying monthly. Played the game from scratch last night, the extra details and new locations were a nice touch and it was kind if fun working my way back into Debbie and Jenny's panties.

This was the first VN I ever played so it will always be a special title.

What I hope this situation does is frustrates a few of you to the point you take matters into your own hands and develop your own games. Some of you have brilliant ideas you're sitting on and hiding from the world. I hope you hop off the fence and decide to finally begin your own projects.

Since saying "the game is bad because the dev removed all content to milk his patreon" apparently violates the review rules (why does a pirate site have so many rules again?) about reviews needing to give reasons for why a game is bad, I'll just re-post my review here:

Summertime Saga: A Cautionary Tale.

You either die a hero or live long enough to...you know, the thing.

How does the best porn game in the game get a one star rating? By committing the cardinal sin of adult devs on Patreon: The Unnecessary Remake.

We've all seen it. A game with tons of content suddenly showing up in the updates page with patchnotes that say something like "Re-added the whole first day!" The confusion that sets in. "Didn't this game used to have 150 days of content? Wasn't I just about to finally get to fuck my favorite character? Didn't it seem like the main story was about to get resolved? Weren't they just about to add my favorite fetish?" The slowly growing disbelief as we realize yet another promising game has been stripped down to its skeleton to solve some backend coding problem the players couldn't care less about. The dawning realization that we're in for a few more years of "updates" before the game even comes close to being what it used to be. For those unfortunate souls that actually supported the dev, the mounting anger that the dev cares more about not losing his precious monthly income than actually delivering what his customers paid for. If you follow adult games for long enough, you'll eventually see this happen to at least one of your favorite games.

And now it's Summertime Saga's turn.

It's a shame when this happens to any game, but it's a tragedy when it happens to a game that was one of the best. Great art. Great animations. Wide variety of girls and fetishes. Fun(ish) gameplay that doesn't get in the way of the adult content. A main story that actually seemed to be wrapping up instead of being dragged out or ignored. Summertime Saga should have been a king of the genre. Instead, it's just another example of why you should only keep backing a developer if they keep delivering real updates.

The only saving grace is that F95 still has the old version available for download. So play that version if you can. It's amazing. Then when you reach the end of the content, you can join the rest of us in mourning what could have been.

Yeah, I agree. The problem is that this game is forever (link) in this state. I don't believe that abandoned tag itself changed (link) anything on a global scale.
DC is just a reflection of the industry (link) as a whole. He's a full-time developer, top 1 adult game developer on Patreon who doesn't deliver at all. It's just nonsense to defend (link) him.
