Ahh yes, the philosophy of a words definition. Right. Brilliant analysis. You can cut out the meaningless etymology. That is irrelevant to anything here and a poor attempt to make yourself look smart.I think it's great that you have the gift of philosophical interpretation and an interest in history. But historically, the word patron comes from the Latin patronus. In ancient Rome, a patronus was someone who provided support and protection for a client, usually in return for loyalty and services. In an artistic context, patronage became particularly important during the Renaissance. This is why Italy is full of art and sculptures...if everyone had been as “industrious” as DC ... Florence would look like a collection of empty underground garages.
But we live in 2024, I'm not DeMedici and DC is certainly no Leonardo DaVinci. I mainly support projects on Patreon, but I don't fund permanent vacations. And you can expect your “patron” to kick you in the butt if you just lie around lazily and don't keep your promises. Perhaps you will at least recognize in my criticism the tendency to maintain this tradition.
No, here in reality, some of us just understand that Patreon is a play on Patron. It's in the name. You don't need to understand lexical semantics to know that on fucking patreon you are being a patron towards potential products and funding artists/creators despite pretense. You have no consumer rights. You aren't fucking purchasing anything. You are literally donating to them.
To summarize: A patron is someone who subscribes and/or makes a purchase on Patreon, which may come with special benefits from creators they love. Through a subscription or offering on Patreon, patrons may receive benefits and directly interact with creators using tools supplied by us, and, through Patreon, have the opportunity to engage with a community of patrons and creators.

It's literally in their TOS. You are a patron. You AREN'T subjected to receive shit. If you don't like it, stop donating money to someone as a patron.
The person you were responding to was right. You are the one who had childish expectations here because you didn't understand your role in this consumer relationship. No one else here to blame. Maybe you shouldn't throw around money if it isn't something you expect to lose. Crazy how there are no shortage of people like you who think you are buying updates to these games. You aren't. Take it as a moment to learn about your own spending issues. Frankly I'd be shocked if you weren't in your twenties. Given your general argument here that your own incompetence is never reasoned with when you don't get what you want. You are like those gamers that preorder games at full price and then get mad when it wasn't what you wanted without looking into reviews or seeing it played at all.
