So I have played all of Mr Dots other games and never gotten this feeling but is the girlfriend character Nicky cheating on the player? Or was there some other reason she was frustrated because it seems like more than just the situation presented.

On the contrary: Nicole had a 5 years relation with MC, and their love begin to pass. Nicole could not agree to proposal of MC to have a 3 some sex, as a solution(?) of their problems. Nicole was always more mature to MC, so MC always got useful advices from Nicole for solving his problems. This means that they were never on the same rank in love. Actually, this means, that MC is a nuisance to Nicole. So Nicole has every reason to frustrate, but she does not cheats MC till now.
In this game MC has a lot of possibilities to prove his mature to himself on the one hand, and to Nicole and anybody of the girls, who would fall in love with him, on the other.

Furthermore she is Georgina's sister, so she can't be a bad person in the MrDots-Universe

Of course you can break up with Nicole for good and have never to think of her. It's like one road not taken.

I literally just made it to the part where she proposed the open relationship. Yeah, no forget this entire game and especially this nonsensical character decision.

You may not care but 2 things you should at least know for your decision
1) You can break up completely like the next day or something and no worries
2) If you stay open she will never be with anyone else but learns she is turned on by the thought of MC fucking other women, seems to be cuckqueen path.

maybe but still unlikely, he's doing his job aka arranging concerts for melody (depending if he follows her on tours). besides at this point they might have kid or 2 so he can be at home with kid/kids.

To skip over what? All the written information are in the game. There are a lot of similar situation in the real life, when a couple has to pull apart (a mission, extended care in an other town, active military service, the sea service, transport trade etc.). The three main solution for them is getting married, to break up, and open relationship. Absence makes the heart grow fonder on the one hand, but there are a lot of possibilities to yield to temptations on the other, as happend with the father of the half-siblings in the game. He cheated his wifes, the mothers of his children. This is why an open relationship, based on mutual agreement, is not a nonsensical decision of the characters.

that depends how long appearance of prev. games chars make on new games. you could ask that from devs team directly.

Or are you one of those, like the vast majority of MrDots Patreons by the way, who only expect their MCs to get all women in the game, but immediately scream NTR when a developer dares to do it when a woman is in the game has sex with a man, even if that is her own husband? It is not the case that it is generally NTR if another man is sexually active with a woman in a game.
We had this discussion in the DMD thread months ago. I tried to get that right. And then Jeff Steel, one of the developers, took me aside and patiently, thoroughly and in detail, even citing the source, explained what NTR actually is. I actually learned something new there. Thank you Jeff if you are reading this, by the way. Because I also had a mistake in my execution. And not only that, he also confirmed there is indeed NTR in DMD. It's the scenes between Rachel and Frank.
So, I could explain what NTR is to you. But I don't want to provoke an argument here. Maybe Jeff Stell will read this and take over . Or someone else will look for Jeffs explanation in the DMD thread and post it here via a link. Then it's official.

Discussion about what is or not ntr is pointless. Even if there is a misconception about what exactly is ntr, when people say they don't like ntr, if what they mean is they don't like the LI fucking another guy in the game, saying that ain't ntr just means people are calling it by the wrong name, but people who dislike love interests fucking random guys will continue to dislike it reguardless of the name you give to it.
It's like for instance, if you serve potato to someone and when the person complain "I don't like yam", then you respond "but that's potato not yam, so you have to swallow it".
