Having played a few visual novels from MrDot games, I really think there needs to be an additional writer or just an outright change in writing style. Maybe read some fan fiction or something. A lot of the dialogue in this game, and others, are so stilted. It's as if none of the girls have any personality that's unique to them that can be pertained from how they speak. There's an unreal overuse of hyper-formality in the setting that lends itself to being hyper unrealistic. Just as well, "shall" for "shall we X" is insanely overused and I'm sorry, but 18 year old girls and mid 20 year olds aren't saying that every single time there's an event to be had or a date to be experienced. "Shall we drive" , "shall we go", "shall I... " - stop my guy, this is so bad. You don't say this shit in real life, why are we making characters in a video game within a modern timeline speak it so often?

It's genuinely terrible writing. Dating My Daughter was a long time ago and I'm not sure if I played through it all, I doubt I did. Melody I completed once and didn't go back and now on the 2nd chapter for Sunshine Love. Please look into hiring a new writer or at least a second writer. If these games are translated, then a new translator/writer. My brain almost can't handle how atrocious these people speak, it's as if they're strangers who never get past a single coming together and remain at arms length. No nicknames, no shortened pet names, hyper formal, afraid to say things casually. Sis obviously works just fine here, or Isa or Bella if you wanted to. Do people even care that much about naming characters? I'd much rather it all be dealt with by the developers so things can progress properly and not have to care about how someone doesn't think so-and-so be named such-and-such; those people are a lost cause anyways.

5 weeks in and I don't think I'd be calling my step-sis by her first name all the time, which leads me into how names are used all the damn time, there is no they, he, she pronouns, any attempt at sounding genuine. If a name has been brought up, pronouns can be used in-place of their full name within a context of a sentence. "Isabella isn't here right now, she's taken a phone call. Right, I'll inform Isabella about the inquires Madam. No of course not, Isabella will get back to you as soon as possible, my word." - What?! People don't talk like that. Those Isabella's would just be "she" in any normal real life situation, even if it's business loaded. You can use the name at the very end for some semblance of understanding but that's really it. Funnily enough, the only place, at least in this game where it _would_ make sense are in court hearings, but this game isn't dealing with court, it's a hotel business and the people running it are about as casual as casual can get, not some tight-ass stuffy hotel.

Ignoring writing, I think it's a big mistake to not have two highly branching choices regarding male/female occupants in the hotel. There should have, quite obviously, painstakingly obvious, been a choice where MC wants to keep going with Isabella on it being female owned and for female occupents, or try and change it up by allowing males to occupy hotel rooms. Probably too out of scope for the team, and quite unfortunate, as a harem game, it's so easy to see what kind of insane stuff would have worked out had it just gone the way of being a place for women and only women, minus clearly, the MC. Meh, there were lines in Chapter 1 about it too, but clearly that's been sidelined for allowing both sexes to rent a stay out.

This isn't an issue to MrDot's games either but damn it's bad enough here I had to rant about it.

Having read your whole comment I'm 99% sure you're mixing up sunshine live and a thief hearts. There isn't a character in this game named Bella but the older sister in a thief of hearts is named that.

Having said that I fundamentally disagree with you on the pronoun thing why wouldnt you call your sister by your name all the time? That seems more natural to me than calling them sis every conversation. I know people might do that on tv but in real life hardly anyone ever does that and pronouns like that are pretty seldomly used. Also I don't really see anything wrong with your example on isabella either. Saying Isabella will get back to you sounds perfectly natural to me as a native English speaker

Then that would be because I named the step-sister Isabella and her name isn't given a default, how funny though that the name I picked is one similar to a character in Thief of Hearts, something I haven't looked into because it's not complete. Another fault for not giving characters names.

Then how is that the Dev's fault you picked a name like that. I choose sarah for the name and I can't think of a good nickname for that. I still don't agree with you on the idea that actually using a characters names instead of pronouns every conversation is weird. That's normal stuff like "sis" sounds akward most of the time and using pronouns non stop runs the risk of confusion. Despite you claiming people don't talk like that, most people absolutely do talk like that

No, they don't; I've posited the question to several others who have siblings, real life people do not talk like this at all, neither do I with my brothers. You're a little too focused on the fact that I brought up pronouns or "sis" as a shortening of name, when the crux of the problem simply has to do with the amount of times the given name is used in sentences. Especially in a one-on-one scenario where repetition of name borders on obsessive overuse. Most people drop the given name once a topic has been started and will instead just use "you" instead. You should perhaps replay chapter 1 to re-experience the nauseam this dialogue provides.

I'm also not even blaming the developer for the name, it's strange how two people have failed reading my post and assumed I was talking about something else for a different game because of a name choice.

The entirety of Sunshine Love is a casual game setting, despite it being about a hotel, there isn't any hotel management going on. The people being hired are nearly all friends and it's funny that the writer gave Jazmin a nickname that the sister uses "Jazzy" here too.

I actually have a cousin named "Jasmine" who often gets called "Jazzy."

This is true. In the 15 or so years I lived at home with my little sister, I called her Sis maybe a handful of times. It was almost always her name, or shithead, my loving nickname for her. ;)

The crux of the problem is that I absolutely don't see the problem with using their given name in a setence. You keep eclaiming that this is some exteremly odd thing to do but then never give any examples you said that you might call them a nickname but not everyone has a nickname. It's not really odd to use their name there at all

No people don't. Nobody I've talked to just drops your name and starts calling a person "you" all the time. Maybe every once in a while but not every convesration. My given name is used far more than that. As I said in my experience the thing you said people don't do is exactly what most people do. Use their given names

you want realism? then don't play games.
An odd rebuttal, what I want is better writing. You should go touch some grass and maybe pick up some books, your comprehension is lacking.

"Hey storm, want to go out later tonight? How about 8PM, that work for you, storm? Oh by the way, storm, I'll be bringing a friend, maybe you can too? I really appreciate this storm, it's going to be so much fun!" - If this sounds natural to you, and something you physically can see happen, well I just don't believe you, outright. Your name would not be repeated here that often at all in any conversation, real or otherwise.

Here's an example from the game itself.

Early on in the game having breakfast with the sister. "Wait, did you just call me attractive?" - Sister, "Huh? Oh, what I mean was-" - MC, You're really sweet "name" I'll be sure to tell Nicole about the wonderful compliment you just gave me!" - Sister, "You wouldn't dare!" - MC, "Hahaha, Nah I won't say anything, so don't worry." - Sister, (In thought: It's actually rather cute when he doesn't quite know what to say to me.), "So _name_, I have to ask..." "Where are these hotel owners that you said were going to meet us here this morning?" "And I couldn't help buy notice, it's pretty quiet around the hotel. I mean, it feels like we're the only two people here!" - MC, "Look, _name_, please don't be mad, but I haven't been entirely honest with you." - Sister,

This is just early on, it gets more grating as the first chapter is played through, and makes less sense as time progresses. It borders on being acceptable here due to the fact it's day 1 for re-acquainting with one another. You might find using the given name all the time is fine, I'd have to wonder if you ever have casual conversations at all, maybe think about it some more. Honestly, go read some books or other mediums.

Either way, this is now getting asinine, feel free to disagree, but don't get so sidetracked about a single example I gave when I find the writing overall to be quite poor. If this is what you guys like, go off and pop off, it's a 3/5 at best. Or rather, go look up Love of Magic, at the very least, the character writing in that game actually feels better.

It's a good nickname, it works, but it's bewildering the Sister gives a random side-character that she "just" met a nickname when no one else has any in her own little friend-circle.
