A check is put in place to see if you said it from the code, so it might change some story possibilities.
But also, you get a -1 relationship point with him. You get a +1 point if you tell him to do so.
Fake choice is a strong set of words. Like the person above you said, it affects your relationship with michael which may have consequences.
