Why? There needs to be some stakes in the plot. If they just get separated, then all their suffering and character development would be for nothing.

Character development is never for nothing.
Even if they get separated and then life for two more scenes, it would not have been for nothing.
Because the suffering and the decisions meant something when they were taken and shouldered. It meant something to the people around them.
And you don't get to take that back.

The narrative of the game tells you that you are in casual relationships and the woman that you meet either acepts that or dont care, convenient but not completely out of reality. However, some are more important than others, Amber and Liz are childhood friends, you will see later on how dramatic can become your relationships with them.
I would bet that if there is a consequence, it would be a situation with conflict interests or if the story force you to chose later on.

Honestly one of the coolest games I've ever played, the oversized Breasts are the only real annoying thing. Plot is one of the coolest things I've read in a long time and the world building is probably the best I've ever seen. Can't recommend this game enough. To anyone who is offset by the art style, give it a chance you will get used to it

The scene I cannot recall, but she says you're going to have a serious talk back on earth.

But she's a monster now so..... I bet there are fewer Alice fans now given the reaction to her at the start of this year

Just like i said, some relationships are more important than others, but in general, many of the optional ¨romances¨ dont care.

You focus too much on the ending.
And even then there are a lot of endings where things go sideways quick and you can bet your ass in endings where MC dies his friends will follow soon after, like that building that rested half its weight on a single pillar at the bottom would if that pillar goes on a permanent holiday.
...You know that is basically the secret bad end with Eye during the Cole fight where the big guy just eats a whole pocket dimension wholesale.

That said, the ending does not determine the journey as long as the journey is real.

The only way this VN could blow up if we go 'it was all a dream' and the universe ceases to exist if eye wakes up and then goes to fucking school or something.

...that said if this were a secret ending that leads you into a low effort romcom minigame with eye, not mc, as the main character I would probably dig it from the sheer effort of shitposting.

Anyways: stakes. The stakes have never been higher. But the destruction of humanity is a threat beyond personal problems. That also means that it's kind of a killer to emotional attachment. Because there is no room to be a person when everything is on the line, you just have to function.
And I agree insofar as the personal drama is the only real stake of the twin's situation. I also disagree that it's everything they have. Because whether they remain like that or split again, their circumstances have changed the way they interact with each other and the people around them. It is already permanent.
Life or death, change or stagnation, all of this has already meant something and the arc has hit its purpose and until you want to do something else with them, all paths are open again. Just be aware: there cannot be infinite drama. It has to settle at some point, the story has to finish or it will mean a bad end for any future with both of them in it. So the question is what ending you want.

1. i don't think trials are only for chosen or those that apostles are interested in making their chosen i think all superhumans have trials but what they are can vary based on the persons power apostle or personality.

2. i don't think trials are for evolution i think they're for enhancing your power outside of training or experimenting.

3. i don't think evolution for superhumans in general is about "fulfilling their purpose" i think it's just the way things are.

i see people talking about the "trials" and a "checklist" superhumans have to reach to be level five but i think everyone is confusing becoming level 5 with becoming a god/apostle's chosen. there are no "trials" or "steps" for level 5's that's what charecters like michael Alice the MC and jake have but that isn't connected to them being able to get to level 5.

1. The wording in the quoted post implies that you believe the Trials are specifically for becoming Chosen. English isn't my first language though I also don't think my reading comprehension is all that bad, so I guess we'll chalk that up to miscommunication.

Unlike other evolutions the Level 5 evolution is a uniquely challenging one, with specific requirements that need to be met leading up to the evolution itself. These requirements are themselves quite dangerous and can be fatal and meeting them doesn't guarantee the evolution.

I can't find any direct quotes about the Trials on the wiki for it but I believe either Bramon, Ella or both said that the Trials specifically were requirement for reaching level 5 naturally. But no sources mentioning Trials specifically so unless someone else shares some I suppose this is mostly conjecture.

Ella Vulpe conjectures that all superhumans are on some level made for a reason, and that a fully evolved superhuman is ready to be used for their intended purpose.

To be fair it's only conjecture, but it is conjecture from one of, if not the, most knowledgeable living(at that time) person on monster related stuff. If she felt there is enough evidence to share this conjecture then I'll believe it's a pretty good guess.

Doll Ella also tells the MC that his body keeps a record of powerful foes he's defeated, and that that's important for his future growth. She also hints that she knows of other prerequisites for evolution, telling him "hopefully you're check off at least one thing on the list". But, this being Ella, she doesn't tell the MC what he needs to do even though it's in her interests to have him reach level 5. Why would she work towards advancing her goals when she could be vague and smug instead? That's just not how Ella Vulpe does things.

Dudes and dudettes....... i was kinda drunk fisting the last update again and i kinda got a Trailer Park Boys Ricky moment of clarity. Mia was describing the state of Shadow (Emily´s dog), how she isnt affected by the cult infection, her body has kinda evolved to handle more energy, BUT it isnt in control of it and that´s why its fucking her up.
The description by Mia about Shadow sounds exactly what MC deals with when he gets hit with lighting aka alot of power coursing through the veins but no control. Is there a connection or not? Guess well find out.
