SUPERHUMAN REVIEW
Final Score: 4/5
TL; DR
A 5 star game with an extremely oppressive and restrictive early game segment. If you can get past that, it's one of the greatest AVNs I've ever played.
THE BAD
Some people will lambast the game's less than stellar artwork. My tolerance for bad art is pretty high, so this was never a major concern for me, but I can understand how this can be a major obstacle for others. Luckily, Weird plans on reworking this come version 1.0, so we'll see.
My other concern, which I do share, is how stringent the game's early days are. In the first 34 or so days it is extremely easy to lock yourself out of routes, lose power/skill points, or stumble onto a dead end. I'm fine with not getting the best power/skill points, because I love figuring out how to min max encounters. I'm fine with dead ends, because I'm already saving a whole lot. But I'm not fine with the really restrictive timings for routes. If I don't want to be on the Emily route, for instance, then I should be given the choice. I don't like having to be on Emily event 6 or whatever before Day 20 in order to be on Emily's route going forward. That's not fun for me or for new players, and removing the reliance on using a walkthrough in order to see all of the LIs is something WeirdWorld should strive to achieve in v1.0 as well.
THE OKAY
Sometimes the game suffers from weird pacing issues, especially in the Monster World arc. MC being an idiot is fine, but sometimes it stretches disbelief. I personally enjoy how the characters are pretty cryptic, but sometimes it feels like they're just doing it for the sake of it. And it feels rough how half of the cast stop being relevant starting with the HERO arc, but I have hopes they'll be reintroduced more consistently going forward.
THE GOOD
I really fucking love minmaxing. I like saving at every choice and redoing entire arcs just to get 2 more power points. I've replayed the whole chunk from Tiffany's choice all the way to the most recent update at least ten times all on it's own because I wanted one or two more power points and a sliver more money.
The writing, while not perfect, is easily passable for what it needs to be, and each decision feels weighty and real. I love rereading into the itty details and trying to predict what we know about the world and it's lore and where future arcs will take us. This is a game I can see going on for a long while yet, and there's so many things I want to see happen before we finally close the doors on things. I am personally of the opinion that we are only just about halfway done with the game, since I expect the MC to spend a significant chunk of time at each evolution stage.
I love the LIs, I think they are all beautiful and feel like real characters. I want to see them more and more with each update, even if it means dragging them into MC's horrible reality. Even the non LIs are just incredible to see, characters like Deus, Bernhardt, Clark, Deryl, etc, are all a treat.
CONCLUSION
I love Superhuman. It's such a good game that I've fully replayed it about seven or eight times now, not counting reloading from earlier saves to better optimize points. It's got a couple of big noticeable flaws, especially in the early game, but outside of those it is a really fun experience. If v1.0 comes along and fixes these things, it's an easy 5 stars.
