It's because darkness is extremely hard to find pure. There are few monsters who are pure darkness that could transmit the full trait, one that we know of is Valravn but knowing him he probably is waiting for someone worthy of it and that will praise his lord and saviour the 7th.

Darkness can be found mixed with other traits in some monsters tho.

Maybe I’m misremembering, but didn’t the MC just make sure to hold her brain matter together and reconnect it or something like that, while Deryls did the real work of saving her?

Given how it played out, it seemed to be the MC doing the most but that it was still a joint effort of restoring her brain from death, Deryl was providing support and they where using their combined knowledge of the human brain, but the MC was the one stitching it back together.

Although given how his power works and what they where struggling with, if the MC had touched someone prior to injury, it should be extremely easy for him to restore them, with the exception of equal or more powerful superhumans. The biggest obstacle was repairing her brain to the way it was, much like he does his own head when it ceases to exist.

Hmm, in the interest of being fair, I think there has been an implied path forward for MC gaining atomic control like Ella. There's this discussion between Xanthe and MC where it's brought up that MC can only really do it by mimicking what Ella did.
Xanthe "How about changes in material? As I recall, you can restructure your body into metal. How do you accomplish that?"
You "Huh? I'm not exactly sure, I just replicate the feeling I got when Ell-"

You "(Wait, maybe I shouldn't let on exactly how close I am with Ella. He says he knows I met her, but that doesn't mean he knows the full story between us.)"

This implies that MC, either through consuming Ella or absorbing enough of her memories, could unlock atomic control. But I stand by the idea that MC on his own simply couldn't achieve the same degree of control.

Well yeah, I also remembered that conversation and wanted to bring it up in our argument.
However, this is the shitty thing about retcons, it makes any evidence possibly invalid. Bringing up things that have been said or done can be invalidated if the author decides to retcon shit.
