him going through the window is another contrivance just to have him be part of the scene.
- Inoda picks the key for no reason at all.
- kirito goes trough the window.
- a storm happens.
- kirito's phone is not charged.
- he goes to sleep.
If you think about it you can remove some of them without affecting the story. the key could have simply been washed away. Kirito's phone could have lost charge if he used it that day while he was remembering about his girlfriend maybe checking up photos. or calling her sister and GF. maybe even playing phone games with the buddy he went to the game-store with. but it is ok the writing does not have to be perfect. people make concessions because it is porn at least it is serviceable. and the characters are consistent even if the world is not that consistent.

the date was planned on the date of the storm. it doesnt just happen.
kiritos phone being empty is plot convenience yes, but it still could happen randomly to anyone. even if kiritos phone still had energy, asuna promised inoda a "lovers date". and asuna being asuma, she wouldnt break this promise, even if kirito had called for whatever reason
also him going to sleep... i mean.. its a stormy night and you have nothing to do. iirc all this shit happened at 10pm-2am. so why not?
surely, you can also remove some things but this is all considered build up. its a nice touch.
