Not quite what I tried to say, but I know everyone has a difference stance on that topic. I never said Fujino should work for free. But it's a mistake to think of him being employed and owned by his fans. That's not a healthy way of working for a creator.
What I'm saying is that money comes to creators who make amazing things. Regardless of mainstream games or niche NSFW indie titles, if someone has a cool vision and there are people who like that vision, they will support. Think of it like that: A creator has kinks and fetishes that they love, and there are people out there in this world who love the same things as them. So if Fujino loves something and commits to it, he'll get supporters with similar preferences enjoying what he does.
In other words, people supporting a creator because they like their work, rather than a creator only working on stuff that some vocal individuals told them to do.
Unless it's commissioned work, the moment a creator starts to think that they can only continue to exist by fulfilling the requests of their fans, they've become a working drone, no longer a real creative mind but just a wish fulfillment tool for others. The risk of losing focus, driving into narrative dead-ends and disappointing fans is much higher when listening to them in the first place, as that compromises the artistic vision / the dev's own plan.
