I held off on this game for a long time, despite the art being good. Game just wasn't for me, not really big on ntr/cuck stuff and that seemed like the bulk of what was on offer. Darnell was that stereotypical black dude, where all da white wimmenz at shiiiit, type of guy, the one that you might find in some cheap bbc comics or something. The MC was a mess of two extremes with one bordering on American Psycho sociopath and the other being ultracuck. Whatever
@lostraven has been doing he's somehow managed to make what was once a meme sort of game, into something pretty damn decent.
Darnell isn't some caricature of a bbc trope, he actually has some depth to him, as evidenced by his interactions with his sister and him getting upset in class after the 'medicine' gets snatched from his house. The two sides to the MC are smoothed out some too, (although at some point the good boy aspect has gotta grow a pair). Personally, I'd like to see a bit more agency in the long run, where you can play super straight edge or ultra asshole.
I for one can appreciate the changed made and it really shows, as for squabbles over whether or not things are racist or whatever, you can not like a poorly written or one dimensional character and not be a racist. Like I wasn't too keen on a black spiderman, but Miles Morales is actually pretty damn good, my original thoughts were it's some dumb sjw shit and I was pleasantly surprised (watch Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse if you haven't already). I think the changes to Darnell's character have definitely made him a much more interesting character and I look forward to seeing how things develop later on.
My one gripe is the dog, He has been there since the beginning and has seen 0 action. He's a good boy. He deserves some action. Throw the dog a bone already. Maybe he can wander into the neighbors backyard, maybe he will find her in a compromising situation and knock on the backdoor, (yes I know dogs don't have hands). Okay two gripes, the mom/sister have little content too, would be nice if they had something to offer.
