The game has a great vibe to it with the steampunk genre combined with a bit of Judge Dredd, but the story and especially dialogue are lacking.

Making the story work wouldn't require much in the way of changes. Just make the starting society one in which, 1984-style, the government has worked to make people reject emotion.
What if I told you that I have (kind of) done this? That I've completely re-written the script and story for the first five chapters? Like you, I loved the renders and was baffled by the story and dialogue choices. At first it was just for my own entertainment, but I've seen a lot of people say the dialogue and so on are quite poor. I have to post some more before I could upload it, but I've put together a .rar file that will let you switch between the base game and the new version. Would you (or anyone else) be interested in it?

I'm actually kind of curious myself. I wasn't really against the story or anything, but I'd kill to see it improved

I need three posts to post a link, so OK, I'll post it as soon as I'm able. I really have changed it around quite a bit in many ways. A quick rundown:

- Now set on a parallel universe Earth, not some entirely fantastical world. Now called 1894 (lol geddit?)

- The story's not "We abolished sex, now we're unabolishing it" or w/ever the original was. It's now like the rise of a highly sexualised form of fascism or something.

- It's pretty strong stuff. The original has some kind of vague sense to it that reminds me of sexual-revolution-era vibes. Like we've all just got to get over our hang-ups, man, that kind of thing. This is really far more sadistic maledom.

- Many people may find it offensive! A lot of misogyny, a little bit of racism, quite a bit of ethnic abuse (mostly of the Irish so it doesn't really count). Not reflective of my actual views.

- It's still self-contained stories, but it relates, loosely, the overall progression, over the course of around fifty years, from horrific (sexual) violence towards anti-colonial insurgents to the abolition of women's rights entire. Women are simply property in this 1894 (again, not reflective of my actual views. Good porn rarely makes good politics.)

- Chapters 2 and 3 have switched order for Reasons.

ETA Also - Characters' names now appear when they speak, like normal.

I'd love to see it. I did the same for A Sparrow's Flight some time ago and released it as a mod. The dev didn't mind.

Oh sick, sort of reminds me of the Business Sex Manner comics, but like the moments when this stuff is just getting established, and more wide spread. I'm into it.

OK, so here it is.

You need to have unpacked the game files with UnRen. A copy of UnRen is included. There are two folders, "Eighteen-Ninety-Four" and "Vanilla". This is is designed to work with the current release (ie, Issue 6). It would probably work with Issue 5, it would definitely break stuff with earlier versions.

Open the .rar file and double-click the sub-folder "Eighteen-Ninety-Four". You should see another sub-folder called "game". Extract that folder to the main TFA folder. Overwrite when asked.

To undo the changes, follow the above instructions with the "game" subfolder you'll find in the "Vanilla" folder.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

Louchenozzle, your mod is amazing! You've managed to add a completely different story to the existing images, and it looks just as good as the original. I think that you actually improved on the original by making the stories just chapters in a bigger story. You even got dialogue to sound somewhat authentic by use of appropriate word choice (formal for the upper class, casual for the lower) and even a bit of accent work. Dialogue is my writing weakness so it's one of the things I watch out for in reading, and it was a pleasure reading yours. Thanks for sharing. (y)

TFA was never my main priority. It was just a playground where I could test new animation, post-production, and other techniques without risking anything in the main game, SR. For a long time, I worked on it purely for myself before deciding to make it public. Eventually, TFA stopped serving its purpose of training, and it became too time-consuming. I was never truly invested in the story, as it was more of a sparring partner than anything. I wrote something that would allow me to do anything visually. However, some people took it too seriously and tried to find deeper meaning or agendas.

Given all this, I had to decide its future. I really enjoyed the aesthetics—it was a refreshing break from my main game. But to continue the project, I realized I’d have to rework the story, and I started doing that. It's time-consuming, especially since 90% of my free time goes to SR. I had also completed about 50% of the script for a full TFA game.

At one point, someone decided to rewrite the text of TFA without asking me and published it here. I realized I didn’t want to spend my already limited free time and resources creating art for an anonymous person on the internet. So, I cancelled all my plans for TFA and shifted my focus to working on the script for an entirely new game that will follow SR. The design is retro-futuristic with a bit of a sci-fi twist—let’s see where it goes!

I still like TFA's aesthetic, and I’d love to do more issues since I had plenty of ideas when I stopped working on the full game script. However, if I release another edition of TFA, it will be shorter and available to a very limited group of people.

Nemiegs Maybe you should let this thread set to Abandoned or at least On Hold by a moderator then. That would save you from questions for updates.

Well, I'm sorry if you're annoyed that I made a mod for your game. But what you're saying here is easily contradicted by statements you've made ITT well before I decided to release it - the fact that you'd more or less washed your hands of it was a big part of my decision to actually go ahead and put it out there.
