it's also possible that this games suffers from the idea that the mc has to be super weak before becoming dominate, which is just not true. You don't need to start at -100 to get to a 100, if this game is about a sub mc then it's a non issue but otherwise it just an annoying and tired trend that really shouldn't come up in any story that want to take it self seriously.
If it's any consolation, MCs attitude with his gf before the reveal showed that he was definitely not a weak sub boy.
I'm sure that his current passive attitude is going to be explained as him being overwhelmed by everything going on (fair enough) but I think more internal monologuing could definitely help the reader come to that understanding.
And we start by having his two moms reassuring him that everything is ok, and to just answer the questions asked and all will be explained, so him entering autopilot and do what he's told makes sense. Again, more monologue could help here.
And I also think the author may have underestimated how visceral some readers' reactions to the mind wipe reveal would be. For him, it may have been just a simple explanation as to how and why the MC never knew about the world of magic growing up, even though he lived in a house with 5 witches.
To some of us, though, the mind manipulation is a complete destruction of any and all trust that the MC is supposed to have in his mothers, and his sisters too if they knew of it and allowed it to happen.
There is nothing about his memory or feelings that he can trust are his own as opposed to what was put there by these witches. Every assumption he has must be questioned. Are they really his family? What else are they hiding? Does he actually love them, or are they making him love them?
And it'll all come down to them saying "We just erased a few memories to keep you safe.
Trust us."
Anyways, I'm very interested to see how the dev deals with this. I expect, though I hope against it, that he will just handwave it and move on with the story.
Personally I would love to see MC get back all of the memories that were taken from him, with a quick montage of all the cool stuff that he witnessed over the years, and then have wards put on his mind so that nothing like this could ever be done again.
If it turns out his mothers did this with the knowledge that it could all be reversed if he ever showed magical aptitude, it would go a very long way at reestablishing the trust that right now just does not exist.
I may be totally overthinking this, but for me that's the danger of the mind manipulation rabbit hole.
