Btw. I've been posting Unreal assets and talked about how Epic is going to migrate Unreal Marketplace over to Fab.com, and that just happened last week.

The result seems to be a huge mess though. People complaining about a bad user experience, PAs mostly loosing their customers and income, and also much, much higher prices it seems.

There are now several license tiers, one personal for anyone who makes less <100K per year (which is actually kind of easy to reach if you're living in a first world country), and commercial for anyone else. And the commercial one is like 10x more expensive then the old licenses were on Unreal Marketplace. Sooooo... I guess they jinxed it.

EDIT: if you've always bought those humble bundles I posted then you actually have very valueable licenses for those assets now, cause those came with the old Unreal Marketplace license.

Just a quick note.

So, as many of you know, I'm still using Daz Studio 4.16, mainly because I don't trust newer versions of Daz Studio with my older assets.

There is ONE THING that Daz Studio 4.22 introduced that some stuff WILL NOT WORK WITH if you are are using an older Daz Studio version. Specifically, anything that uses the Omni Shader, specifically some dForce hairs that rely on the Omni Shader.

I can load the hairs, and see the silhouette of such hair in the 'Texture Shaded' version of the Iray viewport, but not in other modes, specifically it's invisible in Daz Iray.

I've tried applying hair shaders to it, sending it to Hexagon, which just flat out does not acnowledge it's existence, exporting as .obj and then re-importing, either into Daz Studio or into Hexagon, no joy.

So these newer 'Omni-based' hairs are using some magical pixie dust thing that apparently only works in Daz Studio 4.22 or newer. So far I haven't found a workaround, mainly I'm just reporting this here so that others that may be avoiding the latest versions of Daz Studio are aware.

If anyone is aware of a workaround, short of running with two Daz installs, feel free to share, otherwise, yeah...

---

Back to the sale stuff though. I've ended up grabbing a couple of interesting bundles via Lightning Deals, when discount stacking comes into play, so it's worthwhile to watch those. Thankfully, tokens apply to lightning deals, at least at the moment. I hate tokens.

By my math, I already would have saved enough money to justify the $20/month surchage for Daz Premier with savings to spare, but as I noted, I plan to cut back on my Daz3D.com spending after this sale is over. It's the insulting offer that the Daz sales team offered r.e. trading in my Daz+ membership months for only two months of Premier that really pisses me off.

The Daz sales team is laughing all the way to the bank I'm sure, but it's still insulting.

Renderostiy has a sale that supposedly ends today at 11:59 PM Tennessee USA time, 50% off/60% off if Prime. It's probably been mentioned already, just noting that it wraps up today.

Supposedly, around half of the Daz PA's are in today's Daz3D.com sale. So not quite a catch up sale, but might help with the discount stacking. It's also 'Double Tokens' tuesday I'm guessing.

Anyways, yeah ranting a bit, nothing to see here, move along!

The current wishlist sale isn't too bad. But you need to factor in that you need a new item to get the best discount. I would recommend this: (because that is a Daz+ item and only costs $2.88).

And if you want a recommendation for which PA to look at for wishlist items (I realize if you didn't know about him before, you'll probably have nothing on your wishlist from him), that's going to be:

Why? I just like him I guess, but I also want to point out that for that PA in particular you don't have to buy the Male variants of his clothing. Just buy the Female ones only and use autofit, I actually kind of believe he is doing pretty much the same thing when he creates the Male variants (or maybe the other way around). Only a few of the clothing items seem to not autofit well on both genders.

EDIT: Also, I have to say for everyone who is currently looking at these sales and ends up buying stuff: Daz Premier is worth it for you. I know we're all whining here (and in the Daz forum) about how dare they ask 20$ per month, but it is what it is and if you're buying stuff you will end up saving money when you have Daz Premier. Just those Doorbuster items alone for 1$ if you're Daz Premier are "worth it" if you just buy a couple, add in extra gift card discount, a free bundle, 20$ in coupons and better sales... the choice becomes kind of easy imho.

I'm going to call out this asset, that is currently part of the sale over at Renderosity:

$20 for the bundle if you are Prime. Coupon friendly if you haven't burned your October Prime coupon yet.

Yes, it's designed for Poser, but should also work in Daz Studio. Of course, you may want to tweak a bunch of textures.

There's a bunch of interesting assets included in this bundle, including a few magician props that could be interesting. Not sure how you can 'slice' a Genesis figure into 3 pieces for the one prop that slides her middle to the side, might be worth researching maybe...

Shreddder has a number of cool environment assets that might be worth a looksee, a number are part of the Renderosity sale:

BTW, if you want to browse the Renderosity 50%/60% off sale, and need a quick link:

The are somewhere around 2000 assets included in this sale. Not Daz3D.com discount prices, but of course a number of these assets aren't part of the Daz3D.com inventory.

For G9 I have my favorites, though it does not always make sense to use them. Some of these skins are expensive in terms of VRAM I find. G9 can really hit it hard.

Ally 9 is neat. Great on closeup and works really well with all kinds of shells.

A shot of both the figure and the skin with a USM2 shell.

Bluejaunte has always had interesting skins, which from my limited experience makes their skins more than useful. The Isolde skin whilst impressive also has an impressive VRAM use, so I usually only use that for singles or two character setups. The other characters like Akki have more imperfections, which I'm a big fan of. The G8 stuff of Bluejaunte was lighter, or maybe Isolde is the only character from Bluejaunte that has this heavy weight. The other more adult skins are great too.

Here's a shot of the Ally 9 skin on a Mousso character, with a USM2 shell BOil, GP9 and Strix Nipples applied.
The skin has tan lines(though I may have messed up the breasts with the nippel graft), shaving imperfections in the genital area and a generally the opposite of the porcelan doll-type of skin that I'm an simply not a fan of.

It depends a lot on the definition of "decent". Sorry, I don't want to sound a stickler, or ironic, but it is true.

Check for Tri-x on Renderhub - I have some of his products, but have not yet had the time to really try them - from the product pictures, his textures should look very good, and they are for G9.
However, he uses 8K textures with 8K normal maps, that alone does give an increase of quality (and in principle, on rendering time).
Another one who has very good textures, and some also for G9, is Madarocsi, who now goes by the "name" HumanHX. Again expensive (even reduced a bit her prices, but still we can talk at 30+ with discount, 40-50+ without discount), but when I first discovered her, it was obvious the reason for the high quality textures was that she was effectively using real pictures of real people as textures, so much that I have a theory on why she changed from Madarocsi to HumanHX.
If you wonder why the "her", when was still Madarocsi, at some point she had put something that explicitly indicated she is a she.
Another one that in general has some good ones is Most Digital Creations, their "anatomically correct" series if I remember well has G9, and that series is based on real people.

Although by now I have a bunch of G9 characters, I have not yet had the time to play with them (actually, have not even packaged and installed all the assets I bought over time), some based on the pictures are good, but cannot make any suggestion before I tried.

This will probably end up being the same for the FilaToon stuff or its next iteration. From my old BOFH* days I am loathe to run "Old" software (I'm particularly uncomfortable with Daz's issued version of PostgreSQL).

To date there have been tools and tutorials available on how to migrate older assets to the newer versions so it has not been a problem, especially since I started towards the end of G3 although I have acquired many pre-G3 assets over time; sadly I suspect these tools might end up being 'Premiere' exclusive.

Also, I have to say for everyone who is currently looking at these sales and ends up buying stuff: Daz Premier is worth it for you. In principle I have no issue with a subscription model, my real gripe is the lock-out (both in functionality and assets) if you need to pause the subscription. In other software subscription models I use / have used, the subscription gives you full access to all the functionality in the software's major releases and patches which persists for that version even after the subscription ends.

I am not sure how 'free' the character bundles really are, to quote the blurb

"These bundles feature a mix of fan-favorite selections from previous releases along with brand-new characters"

sounds very much like the "FastGrab" sales which are dominated by legacy assets; 'fan-based favorites' chances are if you aren't new to Daz and are planning on forking out $20 a month, you already have them, and then there are the monthly 'brand-new characters', well, with Daz+ we were frequently treated to 'Pro Bundles' (10 or more assets) every Thursday with deals that gave you 85% or better ...

Regarding the 'Doorbuster' deals, in my case these have been a huge disappointment; there have only been a couple that weren't already in my library and the only two I haven't got are an asset that I believe to be way overpriced at $1.00 and a tool which I suspect will go the same way as the other 'editing' helpers once it gains sufficient popularity ...

Squarepeg3D has a sale on their Renderhub store. 40%, which isn't bad for Renderhub. Good fight stuff and lots of neat expressions. Has anyone tried the WAE4 pack ? More interesting than OpenWide ?
You can just subscribe to his patreon for 3$ (or even just 1$ I think?) here: and get everything (not sure if it is really everything, but I think most of it) from his store for free (well, for 3$).

Also, he is kind of cheating, because he has a second store on renderhub:

I don't think there's a workaround. If you want the Omnihair shader working, you need v4.22 onwards. In my still not long experience with Daz, I've read veteran users of the application speaking of the advantages of having both a general release version of the app installed (generally an older one) and the latest beta. Both versions apparently can be installed on the same machine and work fine. Although I haven't tried it. That way, you supposedly earn the benefits of both the old and the new.

The current wishlist sale isn't too bad. But you need to factor in that you need a new item to get the best discount. I would recommend this: (because that is a Daz+ item and only costs $2.88).

I don't know... I'm still not convinced. And I can't lie either, I'm kinda pi**ed off at the moment with all this Premier thingy. Maybe if my current Daz+ sub ended earlier (and not in about one year from now) or if they had offered better alternatives to current long-term Daz+ subscribers, I would have moved to Premier and hadn't looked behind. But I simply can't waste one year of Daz+ that I have already paid. And also, as many others are feeling, the changes they have introduced, removing ManFriday's plugins from the store and making them Premier exclusive now is something that I do not approve either. I hope that when my current Daz+ sub ends in about one year, I will be able to find value in the Premier plan or whatever Daz's flagship offering is by then.

Better than nothing I suppose, I would have rather have gotten the Red Beak though I think...

I'll probably crop the skirt a lot higher though, and maybe plunge the 'V' a bit. Might as well use a different dress at that point, but I gotta eek out that value, see...
