So, according to what I just read. we are looking at version 10.2??
- 06/19/2024
("The next update, the long-awaited update, will be v1.0 of The Good Son. The game will be COMPLETE. The plot will conclude. The epilogue will play out. It will be finished!") The Last & Ending update for "The Good Son" (+/- hotfixes)

I have been playing this game from the Start. I have taken some breaks away from it...
I will miss it when it is Done and look forward to Lobsterman's next project.

The developer vowed to release the final update of the game in September 2024.
I waited patiently for the promised update and on August 30th my computer suddenly burned down.
For two months, I envied all those who have a working computer and who, as I imagined, were playing the final of this game.
And what happened in the end ???
Strangely enough, we were once again brutally and cynically fucked.

Can you tell me where the Dev "vowed" to release the update in September?

I am not a native English speaker, submit all your claims to Google.
No I understand what you said. Im saying that the Dev never promised to release the Update in September.

Here is the quote from his latest post: "[...] but when is the update coming out? I'm not sure. I think before the 2 year anniversary (September 2024), but deadlines and me are like oil and water. I'm working on it."

It's coming along. No problem with it being marked as abandoned since it's been so long since the last update. I'm working on it when I can. Life is just insanely busy right now (and I think will be for the next couple of decades, maybe). Someday that 'inactive' marker will be swapped to 'complete,' and I will be a happy man on that day.

Take it with a grain of salt. F95 doesn't mark games abandoned without reason. The ones that get resurrected are surely under 5%.
I love posts like this that treat the f95 admin team like they're psychic - the dev literally just came back with a plausible explanation for the extended absence, and an equally plausible estimation of the time remaining (i.e. a while yet).

The game absolutely should be marked as abandoned based on the mods' rules and skepticism is always a viable, if not outright recommended, lens. I just find this kind of attitude funny.

It really depends on how you define the word "abandoned". On this site it literally just means 2 Years with no game update.
In my opinion it isnt abandoned, the Dev is still active and replying to topics. We cant know if hes actually working on it, although I strongly do.
But the Admins obviously can do whatever they want on their own site, but I dont have to agree with it.

I see 3 possible endings for this game:
  1. The update comes out and it lives up to its expectations, it's basically a full game as an update.
  2. The update comes out and it's underwhelming, it doesn't live up to the 2-year long wait.
  3. The dev is lying for the umpteenth time, and the update doesn't come out or doesn't even exist. (This has happened multiple times)
I wonder which one is most likely...

The dev has come back multiple times basically saying the same thing over and over and nothing has come of it, so don't insult people that are skeptical about this project being finished.
I want this game to be finished more than fucking anybody, it's why I'm so pissed off at this dev, he's clearly just trying to get every penny he can get without actually doing anything.

The dev clearly has other engagements that take precedence. Day job, wife and baby. This is understandable to me.

Sometimes I wish the 10,000 games on here would be cut down to maybe 1,000 games that would each be able to support 1-2 full time developers instead of the current situation where they can only supply 10%-20% of what can be earned on a "real" job. Other times I really appreciate the current status quo. Eg. when I get a great game for zero dollars or when there is a very niche game available that would never make the cut otherwise.

Another thought experiment would be if AI would be able to cut down development time significantly. Here I'm not just thinking about AI art, also help with writing and coding etc. In that case, the same time spent could produce finished games with better graphics etc. Then many people who only create in their spare time would be able to put out great content-heavy games.

You dont know that for sure, but I cant prove the opposite. I guess we all have to wait if and when there will be an Update. In the meantime i agree that no one should be paying him money and making the newest post only viewable to subscribers was a pretty bad move imo.
