How is that hard mode...isn't that kinda obvious when you want them all in the harem

Nothing like that. Simply put. Hard mode is how many questions, decisions, interactions you have to get right, to get the "good" ending. You will not get the harem ending without doing it in hard mode. There are points you get for everything in the game, at the end it adds it all up, and you have to have a fair number of points to get the good end.
Is the hard mode a new game + or can I start a new game with it normally?
I think it's been added this update with the hard mode.

The directors cut (which was just released) adds it. From the changelog: This update is the final content release for The Interim Domain, including Hard Mode and the bonus Everyone ending. To unlock, complete a new game in Hard Mode.

I believe it is because there will probably be a bug-fix release after this one.

Game is complete as of 0.31. FYI, that's just the version number. Who made the rule that "complete" has to be v1.0?
Cause there's an easy mode where you can pick and choose the girls you like and then end the game. The girls are probably hit and miss for most people and an option to not do some of them exists.
For those interested:
You have to choose Hard mode at the Very beginning to get a chance for the harem ending (you cannot change the difficulty setting to Hard once you move beyond this screen).

So - Hard setting = Must restart
Other settings - you can try your prior saves and see which one's work.
The Qi requirements are unforgiving on Hard mode (you Have to save two different characters @ 40 Qi/ so you need minimum of 680 Qi total to end up with 600 Qi min at the end) - recommend checking the WT out before starting just to get an idea on how to best manage choices to maximize all combo scenes and 'like/love' points.

Is saving Natalie a net gain in Qi? Sending her earns you Qi the same as with any other LI, right? Like points + 2x Love points? I don't think we get enough time with her to exceed 40 Qi.
Based on the walkthrough, it doesn't look like it:
That would mean a max of 26 Qi when you send her (edit: allowing for the combo scene with Selene which is said to +1 Like and +1 Love, that would be 29 Qi). Unless it gives you >= 11 like points with Selene (I expect it gives you some, but that many?), it looks like saving her is a net loss in Qi. I'm probably wrong here, because "save everyone you can" is definitely the goal of the game, but I'm not sure how.

If you want to unlock the Everyone Ending, this is a small patch that can unlock it without having to start the game all over again. I only tried it on the Windows version of the game and it worked well for me. Enjoy.
- Create the File: Open a text editor (like Notepad), paste the code, and save it as: unlock_ending.rpy
- Back up your game: Make a copy and save it somewhere else, keep it unmodded.
- Install: Move this file into the game/ folder of your game installation.
- Run: Launch the game. You should see a text button in the top-left corner saying "Unlock Everyone Ending".
- Unlock: Click the button. You will see a notification confirming the unlock. You can now proceed to the ending choice screen.
