Dev said that his game is unpopular while this game is being watched by 4.1 million people, am I missing something? Just a general question, not trying to imply anything by it.
Unpopular in Patreon terms. This has all been explained earlier in the thread, but in summary: he doesn't make a lot on Patreon, and he ended up getting a fair amount of debt while he kept working on this game. Then, to make matters worse, the payment fulfiller that partners with Patreon stopped allowing money to get sent to Russia at all. He had to make a 24-hour trip (12 hours each way) just to get outside of Russia to withdraw enough money to pay off his current debts . . . and then go right back into debt afterward. The trip was also really hard on his back, so he decided it's not worth it.

So while he earns money, it's not nearly enough to make getting what he earns worth it right now. 4.1 million people on F95Zone, most of whom are playing for free, does very little to help his financial problems or to make getting paid any easier for him.

Edit: Oh, yeah. As SonsOfLiberty just pointed out, not getting on Steam also cut off another possible avenue of revenue, which otherwise might have been good enough to keep going. I believe Steam still allows money transfers to folks in Russia, so that would have at least mitigated the issue in the mean time.

The rejection from Steam was the nail in the coffin.
