I've seen some mention of the devs unreasonable ambitions. As someone who hasn't really been keeping track of what the dev has been saying, what are those ambitions? What do we know about the plans for this game?

as much as i know, they say "too ambitions" because the story just started and you already can have more path, than you would have in another game. these path will have future, so, it means, the dev has much more work to do.

eehh it kinda seems the branches will kinda merge a lot,but there is only 1 VN i know off that branches more then this.
but i think it will end up being 1 main story line with side event's/LI based on paths, with no major change's to the main plot until endgame.

if the branches do lead to different main plot lines i think this will end in a "wanting to go everywhere ,but going nowhere" kinda state and eventually crumble under its own weight.
