Trying to play this game again but the Dev sure made it difficult; the MC is such an absolute unmitigated coward in the apartment I'm not sure I can stomach playing him. First thought when his family is in danger, regardless of their relationship, is running away.

Dev says that they can't be a hero right away but this isn't about being a hero, its about not being a complete piece of shit.
He was basically a teenager, fresh out of high school, living with a family whom he was pretty sure didn't care much for him, as far as he could tell. Out of nowhere, unknown, ARMED assailants break into his home, he hears gunfire, sees blood under his door, and you expect him to do what exactly? An effin Navy Seal would have been caught by surprise in that scenario. I get what you're saying, as I hate a beta protagonist as much as the next degenerate that loves erotic novels, but I have to suggest that you may be reading a bit too much into this scene, being as early into the game as it is. I also thought is was cowardly, as I believe it was intended to seem that way, but having recently finished this game, I can assure you it does not set the tone for the remainder of the story. Not trying to tell you how or what to think, just offering a different perspective. Cheers!

I get where he is coming from. When you play these kinds of games, you want everyone to be the hero right away, or you want to save mom or his sister. The problem is, they really wouldn't care about saving him if the role was reversed. I tried to explain that with the dialog, but sometimes that is overlooked when people see Britney and just want to save her to try to have sex with her.

Also, for chapter one, which was released 3 years ago, it was not my best work. My animations (if you want to even call them that) were garbage, the lighting sucked a lot, and I had no clue what I was doing. I was making something for myself and decided to share it with others. Do I expect praise for what I did? No. Did I make a ton of mistakes? Yes.

I completely understand that my games and stories are not for everyone. I made something to challenge myself, and to tell what I think is an interesting story.

I find it boring actually when you have an MC from the start with broken bullshit powers or whatever right off the bat. Doesn't leave a lot of room for building up the character.

As for the rest, it's still better than getting into an endless loop of reworks just because you know 5+ chapters in that now you can make nicer renders. Then 10 chapters in again because now you can do animations or something better. I've seen many projects bleed out because of that.

I don't think this is necessarily true. A character can be capable but use his abilities in the wrong ways. He could lie to himself, thinking he's the best at something, only to be proven wrong and kicked off his throne.
There are many stories you can tell with a capable or powerful character.

As for The List, I think it's entirely normal for the MC to run, though I also remember playing through the other options and dying. But if memory serves, he heard gunshots and saw blood, so yeah... Not a great time to play the hero.

I fully agree with this. The new games being in their own folder also creates a new starting point, which is a good choice. They're different games, so there's less motivation to rework the previous game.

anyone not running away or otherwise securing themself when a surprising situation unfolds with an unknown number of attackers, unknown gun types, -numbers and unknown intentions leveled at the household is just one thing: casualty for CSI to scrape into a bag and put into the meatlocker with the stainless steel drawers unless they have some super gene or other - and full mastery over it.

in that situation he's just a kid from a broken home.
