Due to irl issues I dropped this long ago and lost contact with the creators of it. I don't actually know if they COULD update it. I could try to reach out, but I'm not entirely sure it'd be workable. That being said, if they could do it, maybe someone else could. They made the patch in like. 2, 3 days, so it shouldn't be hard

No, I also use Windows 10.
The only things I can think of are the following:
Download latest
I suspect maybe you don't have the latest version of something and you need to download it, like direct X version or latest java version or something. Something that ruby requires. Nothing relating to graphics cards because this game is not graphically advanced.
Barring that,
1) Make sure that when you extract your rar files you aren't getting uniode characters in the extracted files when you perform the extraction.
2) Personally I would just try to combine all three parts of the game together before applying any kind of translation oritented patches found here to the game. When you do this, you will not see different artwork on the main screen when you boot up the game. But in the application box at the top of the application window when the game is running. It should tell you in that gray bar at the top you are running the latest game version and if you are able to get it to do that you are basically 90% of the way there.
3) Make sure you are careful when applying any patches here on this website that every file goes in its corresponding directory. Make sure you are following the extraction instruction written in japanese in the readme files in each rar part to the letter.

I did a few different things, but I have the game running. I can't say which of the 4 things I did for certain fixed it, but you did me a great kindness with the post. Much appriciated!

probably a boring question, but after running through the thread I don't see an answer: everything is unzipped, but some files are not visible, although they are there. The game does not start, no error occurs, the locale is Japanese
Try placing the game folder on your desktop, and make sure the folder also has a very simple name with no unifont symbols.
Also, to see hidden files: open a Windows Explorer window > click on the View tab > click the Hidden Items checkbox (I also recommend enabling file name extensions)

the game engine is very unlike other game engines (unity, ren'py, wolf) and while i wouldn't say its impossible (please prove me wrong), there is unlikely an existing familiar solution that wouldn't take some reinventing the wheel. This being now 2025 and the game is considerably old at this point.

you are a programming expert if you were able to do something like this ; and I have mad respect for you just simply for looking into it. As it was explained to me it was converting files in data --> bin to be editable in notepad++, being able to manually change japanese characters in notepad++ files either manually or through a programming script, then being able to recompile game in the old version of ruby that nobody uses anymore to put the english into the game.
also something about certain " ' " characters screwing up the ability to do automatic translations, as someone else did in fact look into translating it themelves in a different thread.
At this point I've already played thru the game using textractor so i don't even really care that much but i'm sure other people would greatly appreciate it.
See, I had a full mtl on my old machine but I don't know if I have the files anymore.... If I can get it again I'll upload it here. it was shitty but it was something.
