If you are really stuck here then I am concerned that you won't be able to proceed much further. As both the fact that there are only six possible combinations for this "puzzle" and that each book and shelf give a description which heavily hint at the answers.

I'm not good with English, and translating the entire text is very tedious, there is a lot of text in the game, so yes, your idea is reasonable.
